No need to go into the super conservative mode on offense or defense so early in the 4th QTR. The players thrive off the adrenaline and energy to keep things rolling; once they “slow down & think” is where mistakes happen from not trusting their instincts.

He’s mad because Dabo is actively destroying the narrative he built on this site for years. According to JK the only thing that matters is dollars spent. Brad supposedly does more with less but can’t win because he isn’t given money to spend on elite assistants. Dabo, free to
spend any amount required, chose to promote from within at minimal expense on coaches with little experience outside our program. Their winning proving that a head coach can develop highly effective assistants within their system and that spending a fortune on the biggest names doesn’t matter. It’s killing him.

Oct 16, 2022, 11:01 AM

Not that Clemson should be in all 13, but the committee proves every year an undefeated power 5 champ will always get in and Clemson is favored in all remaining games.

Tenn & UGA - one will have at least 1 loss
same with OSU & Mich

Not only will Tennessee or Goergia along with Ohio St or Michigan have 1 loss, but they will not make their conference championship.

Re: Well, the other 9 are either stupid, spinning, or in denial

Oct 16, 2022, 12:22 PM [ in reply to Well, the other 9 are either stupid, spinning, or in denial ]

It's unlikely in any year because it's really hard to win out. But let's start with a basic premise. We could theoretically have undefeated champions of each P5 conference one year. That would by definition mean an undefeated champ would get left out.

Next, let's look at an example where there are 4 undefeated P5 champions and then a 1 loss Alabama SEC champion. Do you honestly believe the SEC champion is getting left out of any playoff? After that, you just need to consider other possibilities. For example, Tennessee beats UGA and then Alabama wins another nail bite against Tennessee in the SEC championship. Don't forget that this is effectively what happened in 2011, when LSU and Alabama replayed each other for the championship. In that case, Alabama, who had a loss and didn't win their division, got the nod over a 1 loss Pac-12 and a 1 loss Big-12 champion. The prevailing thought before then was that no conference championship would be left out by a team that didn't win their conference (that was the reasoning for dropping UGA in the rankings in 2007 despite their dominance and moving up a mediocre LSU). That all flew out the window when it came to personal biases.

So in my above scenario, I 100% guarantee you both Alabama and Tennessee would make the playoffs. You'd hear arguments from the media heads that a 1 loss UGA should also be in because of the "eye test." If there were also an undefeated Clemson, undefeated Ohio State, and undefeated USC, who do you think would get the nod for the last 2 slots? Obviously, USC losing last night was huge for us, but in that scenario, I feel comfortable the ACC would be left on the outside looking in, since we can't point to winning the big games in the playoffs since 2018.

This is the same UT team that needed OT to beat Pitt a “lowly” ACC team.

UT and UGA play and UGA has a fairly tough slate the rest of the year. The only 2 teams that have a shot at UT are Kentucky and UGA.

The SEC west is going to be tough sledding. Bama may get out with 1 loss.

If Clemson is undefeated, we are in. 1 loss and it is going to be tough.

I agree with you on Bama & UT making the playoffs in that scenario but I completely disagree with USC getting the nod over us with an easier schedule in the first year of a revamped program. We have established credibility as a national powerhouse. To some degree there has really only been about 3 teams to do so over the last 7-10yrs (OSU, BAMA, CLEMSON). Obviously Ga has come on strong the last 4yrs. OSU & Michigan both won't make the playoffs over an Undefeated Tigers so we control our own destiny imo. It looks like the winner of that game, 2 out of the aforementioned sec teams and us if we win out. Just keep winning boyz. Go Tigers!!!!

Re: Well, the other 9 are either stupid, spinning, or in denial

Oct 16, 2022, 2:05 PM

I think were USC to be undefeated, they are such a media darling with such a massive fanbase, they would get enough push to sneak past us. Money talks, and they would bring more money into the playoffs as well. Obviously, we're better with a better track record (the only time USC has been good since the 1970s was almost 20 years ago when they were cheating their ##### off). But I don't have enough faith that CFB is a meritocracy to say we'd get in over an undefeated USC.

Winning big games in past playoffs should have absolutely nothing to do with this year. Rankings should be solely based on what has happened beginning September, 2022.

Oct 16, 2022, 11:25 AM

Fact 100% bet the 401k on it, an undefeated ACC Champion will not miss the 2022 Playoff, especially if that team is named Clemson.

In no world would a second SEC team with a loss go ahead of an undefeated conference champion. Would it go ahead of a 1-loss ACC champion, very likely.

ESPIN tries to pitch it's nonsense as poorly as we are not in recession and inflation is transitory. Sadly there are dimwits that believe it.

The only way an undefeated Clemson ACC conf champion is skipped is if all 5 Power 5 confs have an undefeated champion and one team misses out. I still think Clemson's record would be better than PAC for sure.

To be fair, the actual CFP didn't begin until 2015. 2011 was a BCS matchup, and the BCS was crap a lot of the time, much like the Heisman in that era, but I get your point. In this case, you have a more "transparent" and committee driven selection process, so I would agree with others on here that conference championships carry more weight than one loss eye-test candidates.

If Clemson wins out we are in. Simple as that. UCLA and TCU aren't getting in over an undefeated Clemson. Worse case scenario is 3rd.

Re: the real question remains

Lots of football to be played. This is really not a true conversation until there is like 2 weeks left in the season.

We do this every time this time of year and there always only seems to be 1 or 2 that are undefeated. Style points do matter at this juncture so that if we have a loss it gets chalked up to an off game.

Re: the real question remains

Oct 17, 2022, 11:09 AM [ in reply to the real question remains ]

You have a point. This is why we are at a place now where we, and others, have to blow out their opponents each week and look like total a-holes in the process, but that's how it is. We had that opportunity Saturday but let is slide; running DJ on 3rd and 18, Lord help us. The good news is that like TCU, our "close" wins were against Top 20 teams at the time (with Wake still representing), but we have more quality wins than they, especially with OU struggling, so good for us. Another nod from the football gods is that TCU has K-State and Texas left to play and even a few potential non-ranked spoilers in TTech, Baylor and Iowa State. Either way, if they win out, they will have a good argument, so to keep the mob quiet, we will have to embarrass folks if it gets any tighter. Stay on the gas Street.

EsecSpin doesn't get a vote for the playoffs. The group to be concerned about is the panel that chooses the four teams. If we win out, we'll be ok.

Yea not sold on UGA yet with the schedule they have played so far. Will find out more when they play Tennessee.

No need to worry with the top 4 right now. A lot of football yet to be played and we need to continue to get better. The D that played last night is going to have a few issues with Bama, Ga, OSU and Michigan’s running games. Can we get better heck yea no doubt and want to see it happen but just being a realist when it comes to what I have seen so far.

We all have witnessed championship football in the last decade and I believe most knows what it looks like. Need to stop the run and you need a rushing attack. Basically you need to win at the LOS and for a while last night I did not see much consistency in that area. Guys are really struggling to get off blocks. People are saying we are being held a lot and that may be the case but I’m sure that happens with all teams.

Let’s hope for continued improvement and beat Cuse by 30.

I disagree with anyone who says Georgia has a tough schedule form here out. Other than Tennessee they play no one that should beat them. Maybe Florida or Mississippi State could hang in for a while, but Kentucky was and is way overrated.

Of course we have to worry about Clemson, as there are still teams we play that could beat us. Notre Dame, like FSU, is not particularly good, but they have good athletes. Now is appears Syracuse does too!

Re: TNET: Clemson Playoff chances drop for ESPN panel

This is Rat Poision. Clemson wins, they are in. If UCLA wins out they are in. If TCU wins out, they are in. The committee will have a hard time explaining how they left out an undefeated Power 5 Champion for a 1 loss team. What will be interesting is if OSU, Clemson, TCU and UCLA all win out and GA, TN, AL all have one loss. If the committee leaves out an undefeated Power 5 team over a 1 loss team, then they need to dissolve this whole playoff committee.
