Oregon lost so they are done as far as playoff goes.

We need to focus on Miami and find a way to get the offense in some type of rhythm or its lights out against UNC in the ACCCG!

Very true. Nothing is more important than the Miami game ….and the Tigers need to win convincingly

Unless the playoff format is expanded immediately (never overlook the "Bama has to be included!" factor), we picked the wrong year to lose a nonconference game to a 3-loss opponent. We won't be invited to the CFP.

TCU seems a lock,, being the sentimental choice and having 2 games against teams with losing records and a CCG vs a 3-loss team.

Michigan and Ohio St both have easy games before their showdown in Columbus. The winner will be heavily-favored in the B1G CG; the loser becomes the top at-large team.

UGA has 2 easy (KY?) games before the CCG against a dangerous LSU team; in the event of a GA loss in the CCG, their single loss to a CFP team (just like Mich/Ohio St loser) makes them a better at-large candidate than Clemson.

TCU. UGA. MI or OHSt. MI or OHST. Tenn. LSU can win their way in. All will be ranked above us on Dec 4. No route to the CFP exists for us unless a currently undefeated team loses to a team with a losing record.

For those who say they don't care about the ACC, this is what happens to us when our conference appears to be anemic (Even though you could make a strong case for the ACC having a better nonconference record than others this year; if the ACC takes 3 of the 4 SEC rivalry games but lost its entire slate of games with a 3- or 4-loss ND, the perception is that we suck.)

The key component here is Conference champion. This carries big weight with the committee and a Champion with one loss has never been jumped by a non-champion with one loss. Won't happen this year either. Win out 12-1 and the rest will play itself out. The idea that a 2 loss non champion will jump a 1 loss champion is ludicrous. ESPN is playing the SEC narrative because they want the TV contract. They are singing 3 teams from the SEC and even making claims of 2 loss teams in the playoffs. Thank goodness the ESPN bias does not influence the committee. For any doubters Clemson would not have been 4th in the 1st poll if it were up to the ESPN crew. Win these last 3 and the rest will take care of itself! Go Tigers!

Under normal circumstances I agree that "conference champion" has priority.

However, I'm quite sure that not all Power 5 conferences are created equal anymore. A team whose only loss was to the conference champion--Michigan (or OHST) and Tennessee, or GA in event of a SECCCG upset--currently ranks significantly higher than us.

I think they mean it.

"Though Clemson turned the ball over three times against the aggressive Louisville defense, the Cards were unable to score points off any of the miscues

Critical. Better to not have to turnovers, but not giving up points to turnovers is the next best thing.

Don't see us getting in even at 12-1

TCU, USC, and Tennessee would all need to have a loss.

The OSU loser would have to be blown out.

Assume Georgia wins out. That puts them and the OSU-Michigan winner in at 13-0.

We might squeak in in that scenario.

Tennessee has SC and Vandy on the road. Those games look like orange track meets.
The Vols aren't playing the SECCG, so they can't lose it.

It's likely that a one loss TCU or a close OSU-Michigan loser gets in if that happens.

It's more likely that UGA, the OSU winner, and TCU get in undefeated.

That likely outs the #4 spot to a toss up between Tennessee and the Michigan-OSU loser if that one is close.

Lots of dominos would have to fall to get us in. We need to focus on beating Miami and the Gamecocks and winning the ACCCG. That gets us a major New Year's bowl at worst.

Anyone want a non-playoff rematch with Alabama? Me neither.

It would go a long way if Notre Dame destroys real USC

Nov 14, 2022, 7:25 AM

It would help our loss look better. Yes ND has ugly losses to Marshall and Stanford, but they would have beaten BYU, #15 UNC, Syr, top 10 Clemson, and top 10 USC to close the season winning 9 out of 10 games, 2 of them being top 10 victories.

Just keep winning Tigers, if we make the playoffs we do, if we don’t we’ll have a one game bowl win.

TCU ends with the most difficult slate in the country against Texas, Baylor & Iowa State? Texas is 6-4 and somehow still in the top 25, Baylor is 6-4 & not in the top 25, & Iowa St. is 1-6 in their conference!?!? Clemsons final 3 game are comparable...They beat a red hot 6-4 Louisville team tha had won 5 out of 6, then they get an up and down Miami team that is 5-5, and end it with a 6-4 rival game against a 6-4 South Carolina team...Also if North Carolina wins out, they will be a (1) loss top 10 team in the ACC championship, while TCU will likely face a 3 loss Kansas State team in their conference championship.

I think her column was written before TCU squashed Texas in Austin.

Apparently AA finds Austin to be a difficult place to win, maybe because of Bama's undeserved win there earlier this year. BTW, Kudos to Nick Saban for FINALLY playing a nonconference road game. No wonder he's been doing his best to duck them for over a decade.
