the Louisville coach said it was the best in the ACC. No reason why this program can't be top 25.

I totally agree with you!!!! No reason not to excel in any sport at Clemson. What makes it a great place for football recruits, it should spill over to the other sports.
It starts at the top. Coaches matter.

We have made the NCAA tournament only twice since Kriese

left after 2008. So there's not really a track record in tennis. He made a good hire with Butler though so I hope he thinks this one through

Questions for TIP

Besides Texas, are any other open jobs better than ours?
What do you think about John Roddick from UCF as a potential candidate?
Any chance Chuck Kriese comes back given different administration?
What about taking Assistant Coach Ryan Young from the Coots given his Clemson ties? Too inexperienced?
How about Jermaine Jenkins? I know he's been coaching on the women's side, but it can't hurt that he is a former Clemson player and was a hitting coach for Venus Williams.
Eric Hayes - Not great tenure at NC State, but has been decent everywhere else. Solid job recently at Mercer.
Look forward to seeing your list.

good questions.

-- Other than Texas no other power 5 jobs are open. Only other one that could open I think is Washington. That's another reason why we need to make a good hire here because the competition isn't stiff. Other programs like LSU, Auburn, Miami, Tennessee etc made changes recently but not this year.
-- No chance. Roddick left Oklahoma, who had built into a national power after 3 trips to the national title match for UCF. The UCF job was specifically designed for him with the new USTA tennis national headquarters facility in Lake Nona, FL. That's UCF's home courts and where the NCAA final 8 is held this year. He was basically hand picked for that job and it's a powerful one within the USTA.
-- I don't think Kriese would be a good choice. It's been 12 years since he's been at Clemson and is pretty old now. His Citadel teams have been terrible and his coaching style and views are a bit outdated now.
-- Ryan Young actually has been our assistant coach for the past 3 years under Boetsch. He left SC for here. I would assume he's been let go as well.
-- Jenkins is an interesting candidate. I will include him. Not sure if he's interested in college coaching though since he's been working with both Williams sisters and now is the coach of WTA world #1 Naomi Osaka. He probably doesn't want to trade that gig right now. Plus I'm not sure what his recruiting connects would be.

I missed the Ryan Young move... must have caught an old page by Google and not noticed it. Thought I was watching that, but guess I wasn't.
I'm all for going after the best person we could get. Roddick was the most interesting to me, but I didn't know all of that background. Jenkins is the second most interesting. I figured that would be your answer for Kriese, but wanted to check. It's similar to my views when I'd consider Jim Davis again every time the women's basketball job opened back up.

Seems like they should form a committee with guys like Berger, Kinnear, Salazar, Jenkins, etc. Between their Clemson/USTA connections, they should be able to come up with a great candidate(s).

Hayes has done a decent job at Mercer but I would say there are several mid major coaches who have done better jobs than him at that level
