Did Elliott take over his position group for a year before Richardson? Anyhow, I think his off the field job started when the transfer portal was introduced.

I don't know, but it looks like for this class we could have another Pearman attached to this class. The 2024 Pearman I think will be Kyle Richardson as our TEs coach.

I believe that we have brought in what maybe be the best RAW TE talent in the history of Clemson's recruiting of TEs, and I seriously don't believe that Richardson is the best TE coach for getting out everything this kid has to offer in raw talent and get it on the field.

In my memory of Clemson recruiting, I believe that Christian Bentancur could be the best TE we've ever brought into Clemson, and I'm saying that I believe he is better than what Jordan Leggett ended up being.

When I looked at this kid's film, and read over his HS stats, the first thing that came to my mind was, have we brought in another Trevor Lawrence in the form of a TE, and that is how good this kid has looked during his HS career, and I seriously worry if Richardson is the right TE coach to bring this kid along and helping him with using 100% of the talent that he has at the college level???

Briningstool was rated slightly higher than Betancur.

Fine analysis, as usual.

Got to ask, though … under achievers as far as M.Murphy and T. Simpson? Really?

Thanks again.

Agree. Murphy, Bresee, Simpson all had atleast one season where they were major contributors so atleast in the faded orange category. DJ probably belongs there as well given the amount starts and wins as a starter.

Correct. They’ll be hits but we thought they were sure-fire super hits.

IMO, lots of DJ’s completion percentage came from sideline passes for very little to no gain, and his last season was pretty painful to watch. I give a little forgiveness to him for fearing for his life due to a very inept OL, but he wasn’t very inspirational, IMO.

Once again, we have a top ten recruiting class. But now there’s the portal. I expect within the next two years (maybe even next year) we’ll see a compsite-type ranking which combines high school recruits coupled with transfer portal additions. This will result in a number, which will be a more definitive assessment of “recruiting” success as opposed to a philosophical discussion of the portal. The point being, it’s not just the high school recruiting that will define our recruiting success….so, we’ll see how that plays out on the field….history sill tell.

Yeah, this would be helpful. I actually debated including Hunter Johnson in this analysis but chose not to.

I’ve been pretty pro-portal, and I still believe we should use it to plug holes when needed, but I think this shows our success and recent “struggles” is more about scouting and development. I’m optimistic that is now fixed.

Since both scouting and development are about the coaches, it’ll be interesting to see how the coaching changes will impact this.

IMO, the coaching changes cannot help but make our team better. I don’t see us getting worse as a result of the changes. Time will tell. One thing I know for sure is what we had wasn’t the answer. Hopefully, these changes are.

Yes, I understand uofsc finished 20th or so in recruiting this year. They signed 7 or 8 from the portal to add to this. I would think the combination of the two would add to their overall ranking two or three spots easily.

If you would have heard Beamer on the coot Radio show the other day, you would hear him convince coot U that this class would lead them to the playoffs and possibly a NC. He didn't say a NCG, but listening in between the lines, you could hear it being said LOL, dumb coots. How many times have they heard that kind of talk and they have never even won the SEC championship, and that is where it has to begin!!!

2020 we didn't do too good. Most left. Same for 21 so far. A few are really contributing but does one good year constitute a success rate? Idk. I'll take stellato for example. He showed flashes this season. Will he continue.. anyone's guess.

But I always like Ryan's stuff. Good stats.

always, I know exactly what you mean and are saying, but I would have loved to seen what some of these receivers that's left, what would they have been if they had been coached under the hand of Jeff Scott. Take Stellato as an example with the raw talent that the kids has, I truly believe that under Jeff Scott coaching him, he wouldn't be showing flashes at this time going into next season, he would have been a solid receiver for us this past season and without a doubt a solid starter going into next season.

I know that the type of receivers that he helped to the NLF would have most likely gone to the NFL with anybody coaching them. But I truly believe they wouldn't have been 1st, 2nd, or 3d round picks without Jeff Scott coaching them bc there were a lot of his receivers that were drafted into the NFL draft. God I wish that he wanted to come back as our WR coach, and that Dabo would hire him back to that position and put Grisham as a Jeff Scott helper or something if firing him isn't a choice for Dabo...

Stellato has been injuried most of his career so it is hard for me to imagine his career would have been different under CJS.

I will also say the receivers under CJS benefited from better offensive lines and much better QB play.

Interesting to see the data & charts reflect my Tnet dialogue

Namely after the 2018 natl championship there was a lag/vacation/letdown throughout Clemson's program particularly in regards to recruiting. Kind of a ... if we build it, they (the best of the best) will come. They did not.

I get it. In 2019, Dabo and his top coaches had just recruited, developed and led the team to two natl championships in three years. Outstanding and almost unthinkable. And fatigue, a bit of remote control, some understandable hubris (time to dial up another DW4/TL16), and complacency set in.

IMHO Clemson Football bottomed out on the field in 2023. And the recovery is well underway. The 2022 recruiting class and freshmen performance level was outstanding - especially on the defensive side of the ball. The team will continue to improve in 2024, and UGA, an almost impossible opponent for Game 1, will be a catalyst for this growth.

My hope is the young talent, especially the speedsters, will get moved into the two-deep rotation through the Spring and Summer, so UGA will be a positive learning experience knocking on the door of a competitive upset.

I think Covid and the lock downs really hurt Clemson’s recruiting. Dabo always said if we can just get them on campus. Looking at what we got in 2020 and 2021 I think the changes in recruiting really hurt us and not the blue bloods like Bama, Michigan, O31O etc.

Add to that the lack of development and you get a 4 loss 2023 season.

Points well made. The good news is, we now seem to have some very key positions filled with great prospects and guys with experience. Even better is the new coaches should be able to take this group and excel. We find out in about 9 months.
