RH, How is retirement?

Have you forgotten everyone's names where you used to work?

I've been gone from my old job for 5 months, and realize that I can no longer remember my boss, or my boss's boss's names without considerable thought. I remember 2 of my previous bosses names there (I had 6 bosses in 4 years). There are also several people that I worked with for 15 years that I would recognize their face and voice, and not recall their name at all.

I feel like I'm getting over a case of PTSD.

go back to work the next day if I didn't want to. Seriously, I had more to do and more worries when I was a Clemson student. As for the people...the reason I stayed as long as I did was because I had a team that I actually enjoyed doing what I was doing with. Our crew from work has a monthly get-together now and I attend every one. Good people, all of them. It's a big company, and folks outside that close group I've largely forgotten, though. I might still be there, but I got inside intel that the company was shutting down the division and said screw it...not gonna sit here and watch this happen. Out of the 25 or so co-workers that gather monthy, four retired, four left to start their own company, three found better jobs, and the rest are still looking from the June layoff or taking jobs WAY beneath them. I've spent some time trying to help find landing spots, but it's tough out there. My folks have tons of experience but most are past that prime hiring age (mid-40s and up). Only the young'uns have landed OK.

If I get laid off/fired from this gig, I think I'm going to call it the sunset

of a mediocre career. Maybe if the economy ever improves, I'll go sell boats, or be a dock manager at a marina, or just give up and learn to catch mahi from a beach in Mexico.

I don't think I'll be rushing back in to look for a gig in IT...not that there is one now.

These folks are all digital marketers, graphic designers, and project managers. Both of my programmers have landed already.

I do have one that might be able to relocate if necessary; the other two would be doubtful. Let me gather some intel and get back to you.
