His 1st season we finished 22, last season we finished 32 this season we are 43. We are dropping yearly. Every yr that we lose CBVs guys we are dropping down the charts. I am afraid though that Sammy may dip if he gets the axe. That is gonna hurt, BAD if that happens.

Well, that is a downward trend. But this year we did get 6 games where we could sub a lot in the 2nd half. That said, we have many games we let teams hang around or come back after halftime.
We were very fortunate to be in the game in a sense. Early turnovers and mistakes by smu, but mostly a bunch of dropped passes from their receivers or this game would have been a different outcome.

That is a good point but seriously it was not being able to adjust when the other coaches made theirs. Even Venables had bad games, but he made adjustments and they played like their hair was on fire

This is the main issue. I said it on another post and I'll say it again, our current coaches are totally bereft of the ability to make adjustments. They are the reason for our underperformance in the second half of so many games.

Before Dabo would ever tell Goodwin that he was going in a different direction with another DC he would bring all the important recruits and players what he felt would be best for the program. I do honestly believe that that the recruits would understand, and they would let Dabo know their intentions if they weren't happy with the decision or whoever he would be bringing in as the new DC. We may or we may not lose any of our players or recruits, then again, we may lose a lot of them, but that would have to be one of the things that the HC would have to deal with bc IMO Wes must be replace. Wes himself may feel that he has been over his head, and he would be good with moving back to his prior job as an analyst before gave him the chance as a DC, or he may be OK as an on the field LB coach, and if he done that it would help him get experience as a hands on coach, something he didn't have before coming our DC.
But whatever happens fired or not I would want only the best for Wes Goodwin and his future, with or without a job at Clemson. Honestly though, I personally believe that Goodwin is way over his head as a DC at a big time college FB program, but if I would have been in his place and offered the job, I would have taken it and done the best that I could...
Personally, I don't have any ill or hateful feelings toward Goodwin for taking the job. I'm just saying that he needed to be a better swimmer before he jumped into the deepest part of the pond without being a better swimmer!!!!

Win or lose he should be replaced bc it will only get worse. You're either good at your job or you're not, and once BV's player started graduating or going to the NFL, we all have seen our D take a turn for the worse, and that's a fact, and it wasn't bc myself and others have said it bc it's the truth!!!

Up until this year, I believe that we replaced the outgoing talent, with comparable recruits. The new guys just don't seem to develop as well. I do wonder how much losing Todd Bates hurt though. Our line has some physically impressive guys. They just don't seem to perform.

We given up double digit leads in the fourth quarter the last two weeks . It cost us the Carolina game and dang near cost us last night. A DC worth a million a year shouldn’t be surrendering 17 point leads in the 4th quarter. We had decent pressure with a four man front the previous 3 quarters . Yet we go into a prevent defense and squander a 17 point lead with a 3 man front getting no pressure in the 4th quarter. Defensively over the last three years we have steadily declined.

Look at the offensive possessions in those two 4th quarter collapses.
Look how long the offense held the ball. Look at the number of possessions.
Our offense sucks in the 4th quarters.
41 second possession. 3 and out 4 times.
That is why. Riley is overpaid and overrated.

Totally agree with Scc2742.. this 3 man rush with a Prevent Defence went out in the 80’s when they figured out, it was a losing defense. Goodwin has turned mediocre quarterbacks into Heisman candidates against us with his weak defense. We will never win the big win while he is in that position.

Valid question but has anything else changed in the last four years which would negatively impact our D and is out of Wes’s control? If so, firing the DC then getting the same result is senseless. It is what bad programs do instead of addressing the real issue.

Let me help you. If you watched UGA - Texas, those players looked like our players in 2016 and 2018. We were big, strong, fast and athletic for two deep at every position. We no longer have the elite athletes at every position or depth. Dabo’s stance on NIL is the the issue and is outside of Wes’s control.

Since Dani has been HC I have NEVER seen our Defense play as soft as they did in the 4th quarter last night. It is ridiculous my son made a statement to me last night that the D looked like the Bowden days!!! That is a Very Bad look, but it is True.

Fair assumption. However, with you being a basketball guy mostly, Brownell faces same issues and has done well. If you mean the portal, how many players want to come in an sit behind Woods and others? Then if they do come in and beat out the starter then they portal out and what damage does that cause chemistry. I believe we need to use the portal. Sparingly though. There is something to be said when a player stays and knows they are important and not just a commodity. Adam Randall thanks

We have Woods and Parker on the DL and that’s it for elite talent. Does not matter if we pull elite talent from the portal or HS, the current environment requires upfront NIL. After next year when we lose woods, Parker and Cade the picture will be clear, even for you

You may be right. Not against portal. Works great for Brownell. He struggles to recruit and keep players at times. He does well in taking other teams developed players and making them gel
I understand where Dabo is coming from and having integrity and morals in coaching has changed. Commitments mean nothing now, when in his day it meant something

He struggles to keep and develop players? In college basketball, 33% of all players transfer at least once so this is not a CBB issue.

To be fair, how many minutes has the D been on the field in the second half of these games. After the October week off, the offense has rarely put a drive together in the 2nd half. You can’t have the offense run 3 to 6 plays then punt it away and expect the D to save the day every week.

We just won the acc championship and earned a trip to the playoffs!!....just catching some of you up that don't follow Clemson that closely. Great news to report!! We beat SMU in a barnburner and have WON the new, larger, 17 team ACC CHAMPIONSHIP...and .don't mean to spoil it for you folks that have on DVR, but it was too good not share.....and I wasn't sure if the folks that run Tigernet wouldn't report it are all. They seem to be at odds with the football team, and may not have the same access as in prior years.
Clemson has now won a postseason game (conference championship, bowl game and/or national championship game) in 14 consecutive seasons, extending the longest streak on record in major college football history....in case you missed it.
