Thoughts on recruiting and such

Feb 5, 2013, 1:17 PM

In my opinion, the loss of Montravious Adams isn't that big of a deal. Although he is a program changer, we don't really need him at this point. After all, at DT we have Pagano coming in, along with Reader, Watkins, Watson, and Jarrett who are all very young. Who we really need this year that isn't already committed is Alexander. After all, recruiting is all about needs, and If Alexander jumps on board then I feel that our defensive needs will be filled with this class. All we really need is depth in the secondary.

I am worried about recruiting against the SEC in the future. The hype that goes along with the SEC is only continuing to grow, and I think that if we are serious about football, we need to get out of the ACC. The ACC is only getting weaker, and that is going to hurt us on the recruiting trail.

I don't really post on here much, but I really think a lot of people on this board need a reality check. Dabo is continuing to do a great job recruiting, and I think that he has us set up for a great year in 2014.

Thoughts?

Agree w most of what ure saying. If the eSECpn propaganda machine stops touting it so much it will go away. At some point, they're gonna realize they televise other teams too and beating them down only defeats their own purpose.

It is a big deal, precisely because of the start of your 2nd

and if we don't land alexander you'll say the same.......

Feb 5, 2013, 1:28 PM

not that big a deal.....blah, blah

when in actuality it IS a big deal, it may seem like just ONE or TWO players NOW, but players like this are, as you said, PROGRAM CHANGERS.

James and CJ DESPITE an OC that IMO didn't FULLY utilize their talents........they still gave clemson a "shot in the arm" just from their RAW talent alone.

Look what Tajh and Sammy did........INSTANTLY turned our Offense around

Look at SCar.....they get lattimore......and as a FRESHMAN they literally rode them to an SECCG (a place they'd never gone before)

they land Clowney.....a program changer on defense (without them they lose minimum 2 more games this past year)

so it may seem like ONE guy, but to get in the National picture and it seems just to beat SCAR we need to hit on these defensive program changers

will we survive?...of course.....will it take longer? quite possibly, but the National Title winners/contenders Land those guys

but he!! at this point i'm not concerned with winning a national title.......11-1/10-2 AND beat South Carolina is ALL I WANT

blah, blah, blah (more of the same) blah blah***

You, sir, are entitled to your opinion, and IMHO, you are extremely narrow minded. All of the Tiger Nation wants to beat the Coots, but having a National Championship program is more important to this 1962 graduate. If we have that National Championship type program, we will not have to worry about beating the Coots. Lastly, are you married to a Coot supporter, etc.?

Feb 5, 2013, 3:12 PM [ in reply to I've been waitin' but not seein'........ ]

pheebo, your problem is that you seem to evaluate our entire season based on what we do against USC! A very narrow perspective, in my view! Yes, I want to beat the Coots, but developing a very successful program is more important to me and then we will begin to beat the Coots again. Jeez, we have a history of beating them!!!

badge-donor-10yr.jpgmilitary_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

...yes, but...

Feb 5, 2013, 1:52 PM [ in reply to and if we don't land alexander you'll say the same....... ]

Our program is already headed in the right direction, thanks to those aforementioned. Would it be an outstanding addition to our team to add Adams? Yes. But with the talent we have in place, and the others that we're bringing in tomorrow, we don't NEED Adams. Our program is NOT going to fall apart because Adams doesn't sign with us tomorrow.

We still have a strong shot at Alexander & I believe he will be more valuable to us than Adams would have been anyway.

Even if we lose on both, we're still in good shape. Everyone we get tomorrow is just icing on the cake!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

fall apart?......no....hold us back a little? possibly......

Feb 5, 2013, 2:01 PM

ONE PLAYER

where would we be if we landed Clowney 2 years ago?

speculation yes, but if you don't think we play for the National title then I think you're fooling yourself, I know we beat SCar........FSU woulda been a nail biter

format will stop some of this SEC hype machine. UL coming on board is another huge factor.

We've made it this far and the truth will soon emerge, imo.

Let me broaden your insight a little more.

Feb 5, 2013, 1:39 PM

Losing a few player to a conference is better than losing a few to one team. Having the talent spread throughout a conference is good for two reasons. No one team will control all that talent and neither Clemson nor any other team face them all in one game.

We also should be comforted with the fact that those players won't be in the ACC playing for our conference foes.

Now, why do you react like all those players went to FSU or GT? Heck, even USuCk didn't get a single one of them.

Therefore, the sky is not falling and the world will not end for Clemson.

The bigger they are the harder they fall!

"Losing a few player to a conference is better than losing a few to one team. Having the talent spread throughout a conference is good for two reasons. No one team will control all that talent and neither Clemson nor any other team face them all in one game."

Wow, I certainly disagree with the "having the talent spread throughout a conference" scenario. I want us to dominate the recruiting in our conference and dominate the wins because of our excellence in recruiting. If the other teams in the ACC want to compete for the championship, then they need to upgrade their program to compete. Mediocrity will not cut it if you want to play for a championship, PERIOD!!

badge-donor-10yr.jpgmilitary_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We stand apart from ACC...we sell Clemson not a conference***

Feb 5, 2013, 1:46 PM

Maybe I should have said losing MA isn't as big of a deal as many of you think. Having him on board would be outstanding, but he isn't as big of a need as Alexander. We already have depth at defensive tackle and they are all young! I am by no means a pumper, but I do see that the future is bright for Clemson football regardless if we get Adams. It is hard to recruit against the SEC but obviously Dabo is doing a good job since our class is better than UCS's even though they're in the SEC

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: The sky is not falling

Feb 5, 2013, 1:57 PM

The way I figure it, all these big time 5 star guys saw how Clemson kicked #### in the SEC this year and figured LSU and Auburn needs help a lot more than we do! They may be right. If we had taken care of business with the chickens, we may not have any top flight recruits coming in this year. I guess we should be thankful that we lost a game!!!! 2014 may be a terrible year for Dabo after we clean the table.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

yeah that is why the big 12 as a whole has 9 top 150
