Thoughts on Auburn possibly targeting Mike Williams??

Sep 5, 2016, 7:28 AM

After reading someone mention it in another forum it got me thinking and remembering plays from the game. Anybody get the feeling that the Auburn defense was possibly targeting Mike's head and neck area. I remember one play in general that he caught the ball and was basically down and a corner/safety or whatever came in towards his head and Mike literally nose dived at the ground so dude would hit is back, he did it a few times in the game. I remember some facemask penalties that weren't called either and him complaining to the refs about it. Seems like they may have intentionally been trying to get him out of the game. I could be wrong(which I hope I am) but I just got that feeling. What are yalls thoughts?

I thought so, too. #28 for Auburn was a "head hunter" the entire game. On the TD pass to Renfrow, he hit DW in the back well after the ball was gone. On the play you were talking about with Williams, he appeared to be attempting to "spear" him. I thought overall that #28 was a pretty dirty player.

One of my worries going into the game was that Auburn has a tendency to target top players in Jordan-Hare... remember the game in 2010 when they repeatedly hit our QB late?

Fortunately, Mike had the good sense to duck.

In Mike's interview he said that the DB #15 "was cool" and that he told Mike he was a good player.

I remember the play you are talking about but can't remember who was defending him.
