This is why scholarships matter (unions/NIL)

Do you think these guys would take housing, food and access to our facilities?

I have a handful of friends who spent years...

playing minor league baseball. A couple of them played collegiately at Clemson.

Some of the stories they've shared with me about poor living conditions in low rent apartments and roach motels, not knowing how they'll make ends meet, or if they will be able to pay the rent or afford to eat are harrowing.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

Hard for me to find sympathy for guys who are playing a game for a living. If it’s not enjoyable for you, then don’t play baseball anymore. I’m sure there are others who would be happy to take the opportunity you have.

I too, do not understand why anyone would play minor league BB. Had a cousin who had dreams of playing in the big league and was really good. After 10 years his Mother cut off his check and his playing days was over. However, he was 10 years behind everyone else in trying to break in to the business world. Never has done very well. But, he had a lot of stories about poor living conditions and long road trips.

The minor league system has been trimmed down significantly

But it wasn't nearly enough. What a ridiculously bloated system!

Excluding college, the NFL doesn't even have a minor league. The NBA only has the G-League.

Can someone logically explain to me why everything below Double-A shouldn't be cut? A-ball is revenue negative already and I don't see why MLB should improve it. This would eliminate half of the 120 teams right there.

If minor leaguers go union, MLB might cut everything below Triple-A. Honestly, I don't see why anything below AAA is needed.

Major League Baseball has always treated the minor leagues

like a minimum wage serfdom. Shoot, there was a time, MANY years ago, when even stars in the Majors had to take "real" jobs to make ends meet in the offseason. The money from that telly-vision thingy changed all that.

Supply and demand.

The supply of people who aren't good enough for the majors is high, the demand is low.
