Changes are coming, either in coaches, or in players in starting positions. With the shiniest OC in the country, our offense was still truly anemic this year. So many problems, hard to nail down just one cause, because there are WAY more than any single reason why.
Cade, as was pointed out by Eric Mac Lain on ACC Huddle, of all places, has a LOT of work he must do this offseason, if he wants to take the next step towards being a great QB. He has to learn to go through his progressions, not lock onto one receiver. Now, granted, that takes time that at times, his O-Line wasn't GIVING him this year. That, too must be addressed.
The receiving corps has GOT to be taught how to get separation off the line of scrimmage, and how to find an open spot in a zone. How I wish we could bottle Hunter Renfrow for that, nobody was better at finding an opening in a zone and sitting in it. Even more fundamentally, it seems, our guys need to be RE-taught HOW TO CATCH A FOOTBALL. In these days of jugs machines and such, you would think they could get endless reps on just CATCHING THE BALL, but results say otherwise.
Is strength and conditioning an issue? Our D-Line has certainly not overpowered anyone in a long time, not nearly to the extent we got spoiled by the Power Rangers. I know, 5 NFL guys in that group. Butt, look at the talent we have on hand right now. Not hard to say there could be 5 future NFL guys out of this group as well. Is the difference strength, technique, just plain old WANT TO? It's something, for sure.
Lots and lots of questions, and, I believe, Dabo Swinney will once again make the hard decisions HE feels must be made to correct the issues that are correctable. BUTT, given our numbers right now, that will almost certainly KNOT include a trip to the Transfer Portal Potty. Sorry, Protal lovers.

seniors. Of those, three are probably coming back. We already have commitments from 17 players in the 2024 class. So, depending on how many underclassmen declare for the draft, we are "upside down" by six schollies (if none were to declare early) right now. So, unless we lose guys TO the Portal, which may happen, we have no room at the present time to take in anyone FROM the Portal.
And, let me reiterate, I am NOT against taking a good player or several from the Portal. But, they have to be KNOWN better than what we have, and Dabo being Dabo, is never going to push a player out who is working hard, just to open up a slot for another. Our guys seem to want to stay here, once they get here, so that in and of itself is going to minimize our Portal usage compared to most other programs. We just will not have that many openings.

taken into account.
since the portal "opened" (5 years ago) we've averaged LOSING 8-9 players/year. The last 2 years we've lost 10-11. By some accounts like Strelow and some of the radio hosts it's extremely likely to see a more "turbulent" portal loss than typical for Clemson. Nobody can put a firm number right now, but based on history we'll likely lose 8-10+ via portal and/or natural attrition, which in turn opens scholarships. Unless Dabo chooses his typical path of kicking those "open schollies" to either walk-ons or the next class there will likely be several available for the portal...........fingers crossed.

Yea let’s make all the right points and then say don’t use a tool that can improve the areas you said needed to improve.
Nice troll post. The Potty Portal? Awesome.

You lost me when you got to the S&C being the problem and our DL has not overpowered anyone. Guess you have not seen Wood, Capehart or Ruke blowing folks up this year.

I feel bad for XT. He gets held on nearly every play. He'd have like 15 sacks this year if refs enforced holding against him. (or gained us 300+ penalty yards if refs enforced and opposing teams didn't stop)
