Lyn-J Dixon impressing early in camp
Tony Elliott’s job is to get running back Lyn-J Dixon prepared for the rigors of a college football season, and the former 4-star made a good first impression in last Friday’s camp-opening practice. Full Story » |

I was hoping we'd redshirt him and get him in the S&C program for a full year...but man, sounding like he's ready to play. Speed kills. It's hard to keep that kind of player off the field.

I 110% agree with this being a Red shirt season for Dixon bc with who we have at RB, he really won't be getting that much playing time, and he would be much stronger and better prepared with our plays in the play book without any team we play being able to scout a stronger better RB. And it's very hard to prepare for what they haven't seen yet, or what they don't have hardly any film on. Next year as a stronger player with the knowledge of what we do, it would be at least 6 games before any team would have enough film on Dixon to properly prepare for!!!

I went back and watched his high school videos

He’s quick slippery and has a great burst when he sees a hole. I think he will be a big help in the future but I will be surprised if he plays in more than 4 games this year so he can redshirt. If we have an injury He won’t redshirt but otherwise he will have to show out to play all year and it sounds like he is showing out.
I’m glad Tony waited on the right guy for his group.

Agree...hold him as insurance. Unless he makes a huge leap in learning the system and passes 9 . Not likely.

I have wondered if Elliot puts too many restrictions or demands on the RBs. I know it's a must that they know the blocking schemes and to know where the running lanes should be. But I wonder if Elliot puts pressure on the RBs to hit certain holes to point where they begin to over think process and start losing some of their naturally gifted talents. Seems like a lot of our RBs often have stellar Freshman seasons because they are just running free using their gifted talents. Seems like production often goes down in sophomore seasons and then picks back up JR seasons.
I could be wrong but you always hear Elliot mention when the guys hitting the wrong holes. You know if he is telling the media he definitely is riding the RBs.

may be true. Like in most things, you can only get by with natural ability for so long if you have bad technique and play out of the system. It will eventually catch up to you on this level or the next as the talent level of the competition improves. The goal is to teach proper technique and how the scheme is developed so that it becomes second nature and then you can channel that natural talent into proper technique/scheme and be even better. Hence, the drop off you mentioned in sophomore season (while you are having to think about what you are doing) but then it picks back up in yrs 3 and 4 (when you no longer have to think and just play).

Elliot was not very complimentary of ETN last year. Clearly, Travis knows what he’s doing with the ball in his arms. Let him do his thing - especially with our (at times) soft offensive line not opening holes where the holes should be. I think this is what has happened to Feaster. He’s hitting where the hole is supposed to be except... there’s no hole there. Teach Travis how to block, fine, but let him carry the rock and do his thing. He’s the most natural runner we’ve had since Spiller.

...'love me some Feaster - track star/record setter, and top rated running back when he committed out of Spartanburg High (another Stephen Davis, but with grades good enough to be accepted...), and I hope to see he has a "break out" year and prove he can deliver what we expected of him (and he of himself) from the very start.
Go Tigers!!!
P.S.: a running back with a name like "Lyn-J Dixon"? It just "sounds" like Heisman material to me. And in the next few years, he just might be our third.
