Dentist decided it is time to drill out all my old metal fillings

and replace them with the compound resin and today sucked. My back molar had a big filling I got 10 years ago that sucked ####, but it wound up cracking my tooth with its thermal expansion/compression, so got to enjoy that one being drilled out again.
Does anyone have a positive experience with dentists, I need to feel better?
Go back in two weeks to replace a few more metal to resin.

and my dentist (was my client for about 30 years before I retired, but he is a Coot), took out a very old filling beside that tooth and replaced it for free. Yeah!
Crown was $1,300, but he has one of those machines so he makes his own - in and out in about 2 hours and you get to watch your crown being made. LOL.

She was worried if part of the molar broke off when doing the drilling she'd have to put in a crown but I dodged that bullet.
My parents have a few crowns, #### genetics sometimes, I have good oral hygiene but only so much I can do to fight the genetics.

Man took a fine southern drawl, and then drawled that drawl out to be even more drawlier.
My dentist, who is the son of my dad's dentist, and a third generation dentist, had Dr. Sasnett as his dentist as a kid. We go back and forth trying to see who can imitate his drawl the best.
Anyway, most of my fillings came from Dr. Sasnett before college. Only two after college. I think I have fillings now in almost all the teeth that can be filled.

...is to hear about someone else's terrifying dental stories that are worse than yours. That "well, hell, at least I didn't go through THAT" feeling is about the best you can get.

The only good news I can have from this one is she made the bite smoother on the resin so now it will not feel like I have food stuck in it anymore like the old had with a little nub.

Tiny cavity on a molar that needed a filling. Walked into office at exactly noon for my 12:00 appt, in the chair at 12:02 with numbing swab. Dentist comes in and asks if I want the novocaine. I'm like "never done a filling without it, is that possible?" Sure is, if a cavity is shallow and easy.
Drilled, filled, cured, sanded, and sent me on my way at 12:22, no numb face.
So basically, just make sure all your cavities are shallow and easy. You're welcome.

When you hear the words "treatment plan", be very concerned. Those are code words that they are not just thinking of what dental work you need today...but what work they will try to get you to do in 6 months, or a year, or and 3 years from now.
Kind of like going to a chiropractor, there is never an end date to this "treatment plan".
If you grind your teeth at night or you are a hard chewer, you are going to crack your teeth. Period. And when you need a filling, you'll eventually need a crown. And probably a root canal. And then another crown. And eventually, an implant. The implant is essentially the end of the road for revenue for a dentist, so they will never go immediately from needing a filling to getting an implant but they can tell early on if that's where it will end up. They'll want to go through all the painful steps to get there..because its more money for them.
I hate that it's that way because I used to hold dentists in the same regard that I hold Drs (and I hope they haven't turned into that, but I'm not sure about that anymore, either), because I have had some good "old school" dentists who would only do what was necessary. But then I got tied up with a few others who only see patients as walking ATM's.
I've got another "old school" dentist now I feel like I can trust, and I hope he never retires.

luckily I have one who does great just being a good dentist and has all the work he wants.
The best revenue generation thing he did was that crown making machine - it does make him some good cash, but it also means patients don't have to get a temporary crown and come back to get a final crown in.

First two were from the guy I saw when I moved back to Aiken. He was old school, put on temporary, come back in two weeks, get permanent. They are perfect.
Third is from guy that bought his practice when he retired. Brought in the machine that makes them in the office. It is absolutely terrible, wrong size, feels awkward, bleeds occasionally around the gum line. Hate it.
I now have a new dentist.

had three root canals done.
My teeth are a wreck, but they are mine.
Meanwhile my kids both have great teeth, thanks to fluoride. We stop putting flouride in our water, we need to take sugar out of our diet.

They filled the crown, then it cracked in half about 2 months later. Then I had to get another crown. Then it broke about a year later, and I needed an implant. That took about 9 months, and 2 surgeries.

He’s been my dentist since high school
I went to school with his sister in law (who is now my eye doctor)
my mom worked with his mother in law.
I was on several committees etc with his father in law
My hygienist is a cousin of a good friend
One of the other hygienist husband worked with my mom
I taught the son of the receptionist
Every time I go, I’m afraid I’m going to get introduced to someone who has bought out his practice so he can retire
He hasn’t invested in any new equipment in 20+ years so I’m guessing he might just close shop one day and be done.
But it always takes 20 minutes longer because of getting caught up on what everyone is doing these days
