Maybe he saw the way Dabo was running his program and knew it was the right way. He wanted to run his the same way.

Les Miles is a little nutty. So without asking him, I'm not sure what that means. Dabo has been vocal about his faith, could it be about that? All speculation . . .

I think this was around the time that Saban was trying to rewrite the rules of the game, coming out against fast paced football.
He wanted a delay between each play so he could substitute the player he wanted for each game situation. Made claims the players health and safety were in danger.
Clemson/Dabo/Morris were all about the fast paced game, and Dabo, never one to sit quietly, was against it.
at least that what I thought it was about.

If I remember, after losing to the coots in 2012, many people were complaining about Batson and the Strength staff and Coach Swinney had spent some time defending that staff. After we played 100 plays and were still standing and LSU had lots of cramp injuries and such, Miles was saying that Swinney was correct to defend his strength and conditioning staff.
Now I am not 100% sure that that is what it was about... but back when it happened I heard thats what it was about.

Dabo was still being touted as a cheerleader and not a coach to be taken seriously back in those days by the talking heads, if I remember correctly. Everyone was trying to put any of the success he was having on other people like coordinators and such. I thought it was a gesture of respect on Miles' part, saying he was on Dabo's side and he believed he was a great coach.
Speaking of which, I remember going down to Georgia Tech the year after Dabo was hired and I can't help but laugh at all the garbage talk about Dabo given our success vs that of GT. All I heard that night was how Dabo was a clown, and how Dabo was playing checkers while Paul Johnson was playing chess. Oh, how the times have changed.
