Are real Republicans extinct?

I’m baffled how sensible Republicans, if there are any that haven’t been primaried out or ran out, can sit back and this circus go on. Congress has been neutered to the point that congressmen are not doing town halls, in fear of having to answer up for doing nothing. How is it they can happily hand over ALL control to the executive branch … and a big dummy at that?

Close. Thomas Massie seems to be staying the course. At least he voted against the continuing resolution spending bill.

That’s a hallmark of a real Republican.
The new age republicans who are afraid to fight but want to act tough are what we are talking about as the replacement for the warmongers.

To stand up against Trump and the MAGA mob over Jan. 6, something her fellow Republicans were too cowardly to do. And something that ANY MAGA citizen defended, excused, or downplayed therefore lacked too much integrity to denounce.

That’s what’s so dismaying. There are indeed some things I absolutely agree with Trump on, but a host of other issues that I absolutely disagree with and a fair amount that is pure ########.
However, where does that leave one. The Dems have moved as a party to the left. Moderate Dems are likewise virtually extinct. I have virtually nothing in common with Kamala Harris, Liz Warren, Gavin Newsom, etc.
It’s pathetic how silent the Pubs have been. Power is apparently all that’s important to them and if things don’t turn around soon, come 2026 and 2028 that will be stripped away.

The Hill Aug 8,2024 has a nice piece analyzing Kamala’s voting record.
If Kamala is a moderate, which Dem Senator would you consider as a lefty.
Objectively, she does not have a moderate voting record when compared to Obama, Biden and most others.
If Kamala is a moderate then all the Dems are moderate in the Senate?

Had she ran on how many 18-32 year old black men she locked up as a DA of CA, she would have won in a landslide, which of course is the calling card of a far leftist.

If you believe Kamala is/was moderate, I guess you believe Bernie is conservative? That shows why the Democrat party is on it's last breath. The majority of Americans don't want what the Dems are selling. The far left Progressives are not aligned with most Americans values.
Just finished watching a DeBlasio interview and he's just like the rest of the Dem politicians. He can't commit to wiping his a$$ after taking a sh!+

I don't love everything about Trump by a long shot but the dems have gone so far off the deep end there's not really anything I agree with them about these days. So I'm happy we've managed to stem the flow of illegals and are making institutionalized theft of taxpayers money made public (as should any Republican of any era) while I cringe at some of the other antics. Having said that when the board kooks thought DeSantis might be the nominee we got a dozen threads a day about what a nazi he was and how he was gonna destroy the country, blah, blah blah so I suspect the board trolls would be having this exact same convo regardless of which Republican was in charge. They can pretend its just a Trump thing but none of us believe you.

The old GOP is dead. I used to be one of them...

I voted for both Bushes, Dole, and Romney. In '08, I did a protest vote for Bob Barr. In Georgia elections, I voted for Republicans for senate, house, and governorship.
I think the Republican base didn't really want small government. It ended up that they wanted someone to attack "the other", whomever that was. It could be immigrants, muslims, gays, transgender, media people, Democrats in the congress, librarians, Euro-socialists....Trump made it OK to hate people openly, and the GOP primary voter base went all in on it.
The old Republican party is dead.
There needs to be a third party, because MAGA is extremist, and there are probably millions of centrist and center-right people who don't feel like they're being represented.

I think that really sums up the Reagan on Republican Party. It wasn't a party built on any real principles other than to prevent progress.
Reagan started the hatred, but just used coded language like "welfare queens" which we all knew was an attack on african-american women. Trump just started openly saying what everyone used to say in private.

When I voted for them, I thought the GOP stood for pro-democracy, free markets, free trade, lower regulations, and stronger military. I wasn't a huge fan of the social safety net. But I was good with keeping it intact and making sure it helped people.
I think alot of that turned out to be bunk.
I have since moved to the left on safety net issues. I think we need a stronger one. But on the items I listed in my first sentence, the GOP has mostly abandoned all of it.
I think a real argument could be made that the Dems are actually more conservative than republicans in aggregate at this point. Maybe not on every single issue, but on most of them.

You see with Manchin and Sinema. I'm surprised we haven't seen a split where the conservative half of the democrats have joined with the socially liberal side of the Republican Party to form the modern Conservative Party and just let the nut jobs on the far right flounder.

Yeah, it’s just a shame that we missed out on 4 more years of Carter. Good times!!!
Fortunately we had the unifying spirit of Biden claiming that racist Mitt Romney would “put y’all back in chains” and telling blacks they weren’t black if they didn’t vote for him.
I only wish Reagan were in charge now. If Reagan had the House and Senate, I do believe the government would have been trimmed back.
