prefer a more intimate setting for that first interview, and having the previous years Champion slip the Jacket onto the new Champion at the conclusion of that interview in the Butler Cabin is part of that tradition.
As was said elsewhere, they repeat it for the crowd outside later, unless the weather is bad, then they repeat it inside the press area.
I remember The Heritage Tournament trying to copy this to some degree, awarding a wild plaid jacket to their winner. I don't think those are nearly as coveted as those Augusta National green ones.

When Mr . Butler gifted his cabin to the Augusta National it was a condition of the deed that the jacket ceremony had to take place in there. They have to do that first then the main presentation is on 18 green
