No...it's a real proposal for a pipeline.....
Feb 24, 2015, 4:06 PM

it is a political football of sorts, but that doesn't discount that it's a real project. Private entities want to build a pipeline in our country and hire our works and buy a lot of materials from us and ship oil to our refineries/ports, and on and on...

There really isn't. The impact will be slight either way
Feb 24, 2015, 4:15 PM

|
the importance it's being paid in the political arena doesn't match with the real world effect it will create on the country.
Oil is already being moved by other pipelines and trucks/trains (which are less safe than pipelines) and it won't create anywhere near the jobs the republicans are saying it will.
So both sides are exaggerating and fighting over something that is, at the end of the day, pretty pointless. A great example of our partisan Government at work.

anyways.
They're not too far away from having votes to over-ride the veto.
If it won't really result in that many jobs, why are the unions coming out so much in favor of it, especially considering the opposition from the WH?

Jobs are good for leadership (and the workers) of Unions

and Obama was close to passing the bill before he started siding with environmental groups. Take that for however you wish.
Personally, I think Obama should let the bill pass. It's not worth the capital spent to block it. If I was him I'd pass it and use it as a bargaining chip later. It would actually have more value that way and depending on what you bargain for, it could actually have a long-term impact on the country.
As for the jobs,
http://www.politifact.com/texas/statements/2015/jan/23/john-cornyn/cornyn-says-keystone-pipeline-through-texas-create/ "If the entire pipeline is built, the U.S State Department has said, the result would be 3,900 jobs in place for two years and a total of 42,100 positions, PolitiFact in Washington, D.C. has noted, though the definition of a job in this sense is a position filled for one year. This total reflects both jobs created directly as a result of construction and manufacturing for the pipeline -- about 3,900 annual positions over two years -- as well as spin-off jobs supported by construction workers who purchase materials for the project or spend their wages in the economy. Much of the construction work would come in four- or or eight-month stretches. After full construction, the pipeline would employ a lesser number, primarily for maintenance. The total number of projected long-term jobs: about 50.
And remember we won't see an economic impact from the oil which is already being transported by other pipelines and trucks/trains. So the question is long-term ecological impact vs short-term jobs.

supplying oil that is already coming in...at least not in the long-term.
And does it really make sense to you that a pipeline that long would only need 50 people for maintenance? Heck, we're working on 10-12 substations alone tied to the pipeline if it's cleared and I'm sure there are a lot more than that needed. There are some HUGE pumps needed to run this thing.

so an interesting and popular idea that the right (and some of the blue- collar left) supports and a lot of the environmental and progressive left opposes- and which the President would veto- has got to simply be a wedge issue and not something legitimate. Also, somehow the fact that it's a "non-issue" means the anti- Keystone side is better than the pro- Keystone side... or something.
Anyway, it's all a hash, and Jon Stewart knows better than everyone.

Pipeline spills are very rare relative to the huge volume of products moved over them. Train movements of crude are causing lots of pronlems mainly death and destruction. Of course, Warren Buffett owns a nig railroad that moves oil and he pays Obama and the Demos and they pay him back.

Pipelines are the safest, most efficient way to move liquids and gases domesticallly. That is why the government should get out of the way.

I don't know whether this pipeline will reduce spills from other delivery systems. If you know something I don't about that, educate me.
How is it not of importance?....
Because I don't give a #### about it. It will make approximately zero difference in my life whether it gets built.

Feb 25, 2015, 10:24 AM

right? This is simply the authorization to allow the pipeline to be built by private entities, since it crosses the border.
so...
1. It's not a choice between "this and that". Approving the pipeline has nothing to do with keeping "him" from doing anything on infrastructure. Further...an oil pipeline IS infrastructure and it reduces the amount of strain on the rail and highway system!
2. ok...what's that got to do with approving the pipeline
3. NYT C&P...did not read
4. typical gibberish
But I will commend you for at least trying to give a substantive reply. Maybe you're "progressing".

we taxpayers will suffer from the devastation caused by such a monster. Don't you like corn, wheat, beef, and other agricultural products produced by the Midwestern states? Why don't we just eliminate NASCAR (wow, this is going to cause a howl) and other race programs? That would be constructive and go a long way toward helping keep the Midwest productive and decreasing our fuel needs.

It will be a huge stationary permanent target for terrorists, leaks are inevitable, explosions are a threat, oil doesn't do much for arable cropland. I hope we don't have to see this if the veto is not overridden. Don't just post "wut!" now, just please reconsider your position.
