I've posted a good bit on here about Brad, plenty of it negative, and I've come to atone and to set the record straight on the great Brad debate.
We have here on tnet the Kellerites, who worship at the feet of the Brad, and the Marionists, who mock and deride Brad's long tenure and lack of consistent NCAAT bids, his vice principalness, his shoving kids during play, etc. Mostly, I've come down with those of the latter party. No more after the Duke game.
I'm ready to concede. Brad is the greatest Clemson basketball coach of all time. Chase Hunter, the ultimate Brad player, the sixth year senior with a shot at an ACC title this year, the guy with the most tourney wins by a Tiger in history, the undisputed leader of this team, is the greatest Tiger baller ever.
Rename it Littlebrad Colliseum, Coach Brad Court, build a statue, I'm all in. That said, if the BOT decides to fire Brad at the end of this season, I'm also in favor of that. Pay him whatever it takes to unload him.
Hope that settles it for good and that now we can all adopt the stance I've laid out and move on.

Marion does write positive things about Brownell. Whereas Keller rarely if ever writes positive things about Swinney.
I'd liken Marion to the '93 Cowboys and Keller to the '93 Bills. Both teams were really good, but only one was truly great.
The point being that there is no real divide over Brownell. There is, however, a divide over whether the basketball program is resourced optimally, and whether that factors in to the program's inability to win the league, much less a national title.
As for Brownell, there's no real point in discussing or even crowning him the greatest of all Clemson basketball coaches, because it's not saying much.
It's the ultimate "in the kingdom of the blind, one-eyed man is king" debate.
It'd be the same conversation we'd be having about Dabo Swinney had he never won the ACC or a natty but had merely been to a couple of CFPs as an at-large bid, which is basically all Brownell has accomplished.

But I suspect FM was in those days still the '93 Cowboys to JKs '93 Bills, and that the knock on Brownell is the same as it is today.
Swinney has lived the truth that there's just no substitute for winning. Brownell hasn't. Yet.

The only reason Brad is still here is because Dabo loves him and his winning % over top teams (>20 SRS) since 2020. He's turned the corner despite those that hate. Enjoy the season.

It was very specifically over a Virginia basketball game. He complained about how in a previous season we had very poor attendance at a pivotal UVA game and hoped we could do better. He got destroyed because not only was the game verifiably a sellout, the entire broadcast was available on the ACCN YouTube page. He lied start to finish about everything. That was when he blocked dozens of people and began sh*t-posting about Dabo.

I do think SRS is a strong analytic. I’m not surprised you don’t realize choosing an arbitrary cutoff and comparing the back 4 years of a 15 year stint to the first 3 of an another is not equivalent. It’s also really strange that you had extremely strong objections when I used similar metrics but made more significant efforts to control for variables. But we both know you’re not here for honest purposes. Why don’t you go tidy up those lies about UNC and the odds of making the tournament.

I'd say Brad and his coaching seems to have found the right moment with the portal. Anf yes, I know you have said as much. I'm not going to dredge up crap losses/seasons from a decade ago. Especially given the recent success.
Hell, I'm not even going to compare him to past Clemson coaches and their accomplishments, what little there were.
If we are elevating our game to beat tougher teams, why worry about the difficult years if they are in the rearview mirror? I understand your need to double, triple, quadruple down on past predictions of Coach Brad's impending doom and malfeasance. If the best you got is "well 10 years ago" or "He only is nice to high $$ Donors" or "We will suck NEXT year", its kind of weak. Especially when we are winning.
But don't let that deter you and your band of minions (both of em) from causing strife in a successful season.

Brad is the best coach in the acc which is the weakest conference it has ever been. Not sure where that ranks him but certainly not in the top 10-15 acc coaches in the last 15 years.

I’m a Clemson fan and support Coach Brownell, but losses are always tough, regardless of the sport. I also know Clemson is not a Basketball powerhouse (yet) like we are in Football, so it might take time. I saw what Dabo did and now see Brad could do the same here.
Gotta support the team.

The usual JK gaslighting.
In the three seasons before Dabo Swinney took over as full time head coach Clemson football recruiting averaged 6th place in the ACC.
In the three season before Brad Brownell took over as full time head coach Clemson basketball recruiting averaged 7th place in the ACC.
Brad inherited a freshman class ranked 9th in the country. Dabo inherited a class ranked 11th.
(JK’s defender will now proceed to explain why all those basketball players were overrated by national analysts but all the football ones were spot on and coaching has nothing to do with player outcomes)

Never should have equal footing. Football generates 99% of the money and is the reason why some of the other sports even exist. Most of the other teams are in the red and wouldn’t survive without Clemson football and the money Dabo and co bring in.

You feed the part of the business that generates the cash, so it can help lift the other programs. If it wasn't for Dabo and the football program over the last 15yrs we wouldn't have the money to give Brad, build new facilities, pay for better coaches.

in my lane (that being that I have no clue how to coach or play basketball and I have no idea how to run a program). Having said that, this year so far and last year have been excellent by any standard, let alone Clemson standard (for basketball). Certainly if he continues to run a program of this caliber, and wishes to, he'll retire from Clemson as a ripe old age of...whenever he feels like it.
And the program (unless it tanks...who knows) will be at a fundamentally different point than it was when he started. There are no curses left. There are no blue bloods...no untouchable idols that little old Clemson is not fit to beat. For all the mediocrity that we have endured over the past decade or so, he will have left quite the legacy if things continue the way they are going.

For those attempting to be divisive, “tending to cause disagreements that separate people into opposing groups” - Collins Dictionary, they are simply using CBB as the catalyst. They would just as willingly use football, or baseball, or softball, or… to satisfy their need to spread discord. Luckily, Clemson family is bigger than that.

There's plenty of anger on here, and if people want to be angry, it's pretty hard to stop them. Sorry if I mischaracterized your views, but you are pretty prolific on the boards, and I was hoping to get a few laughs from one of the titans of tnet. I admit to to calling for a new basketball coach in the past. However, I am willing to admit that I am wrong when new information is introduced. Last season was great, and this season is also going very, very well.
Now, win the ACC tournament and I will be calling for a statue.
But, just like Penn State, we reserve the right to put it in a warehouse if you embarrass us down the road, Brad. 😘
