but I can't help but wonder if all of these defensive guys would be leaving if BV was still our DC. I know a couple would move on who are projected high first-rounders but it does make me wonder if there is a respect element with BV that doesn't exist with Goodwin.

Everybody that has left was expected and I would not doubt the coaches agreed with their choices. We have plenty of players on Defensive line and I look forward to see what they do with more opportunities. Personally I think Tyler Davis should go for himself. He has put his time and does not have anything else to prove and deserves to try the next level. Ruke I think benefits greatly with another Year.

Based on your hypothesis, they would be in the portal instead of going to the NFL.

Agreed. And TU for asking this in a sensible way. We can’t ever know or quantify this, but I suspect our ability to attract and/or retain players is challenged by having relatively inexperienced coordinators.

Coaches talk about players earning it on the field. Coordinators with little to no experience at that level, even at Clemson, have to earn it with players- with recruits and esp those at Clemson, in practice, in the film room, in games. Dabo throwing his full support behind them isn’t enough to carry the day every day. I know Dabo was all about promoting from within for the OC and DC roles, but did he ever consider maybe those promotions weren’t the best thing for those guys at that time? Some of the best jobs I’ve had came later than I was wanting or expecting.

Curious to see how this plays out next season with another year of recruiting, portal activity, and work by the coaches and players. 2023 is gonna be big for this program.
