4 Solids QTRS in the next 2 weeks ends QB controversy

Sure, we've worn down inferior talent over the last three games and scored a lot of points in the second half, which is great. What we haven't seen is a consistently strong first half from our offense and until that happens the QB controversy will continue.
If the Offense can play 4 good quarters over the next 2 weeks things will settle down.
The first half of the Wake game should be something like 28-7 and close out something like 41-17 and NC State should be something like 21-10 first half and finishing up like 38-24
Just play 4 good qtrs...that's all.

The spread of the game was announced at 7 points.
Your standard for eliminating your outdated opinion of a QB controversy is for DJ to play well enough to win by 3X the spread?
I also find it funny that you include final scores for both teams in your assessment of what would make DJ stand alone.
What does points allowed by our defense have to do with DJ showing you that he is the man for the starting QB spot?

there isn't a QB controversy........

There were a MYRIAD of reasons why our offense struggled last year and it was a mixture of: -QB play -WR play -Oline play -Offensive playcalling -injuries
Thus far we've pretty much eliminated two of those issues, yet our offensive struggles continue, SO.......our issues now rest on the shoulders of: -WR play -Oline play -Offensive playcalling
I said last year that the WR play was our #1 issue and it still remains the #1 issue................but it was low hanging fruit and easy for ignorant fans to just blanket blame DJ and injuries.

We won't know any of that until...

we play a decent team - NC State. Until now all the teams we've played are crap, and we've struggled at times and in different ways with them. We haven't truly looked dominant from start to finish in ANY of the games so far this season. We won't really know anything about our OL or the run game until then either.
If DJ looks like the deer-in-the-headlights, staring-down-one-receiver, bronze-statue-in-the-pocket DJ like he did against real competition last year, then you're dang skippy there's a QB controversy. Klubnick needs to be getting practice time with the first string, now.

Here's what we do know......

Through the "crap" teams that we've played: -DJ has played pretty good........not elite. Outside the GT drive, Klubnik hasn't looked good vs "crap" teams. -we've stayed relatively healthy -WRs have been at very best AVERAGE.......step above their pathetic play last year and far from elite -Oline has been the same as last year -playcalling has been pretty much the same as last year......I was cautiously optimistic after the 1st play vs LaTech...........then it was 13-6 at halftime
bottomline is we will find out a TON about the team over the next 4-5 weeks.......killing Wake this weekend won't prove anything. We destroyed them last year and we weren't that good..........we just match up with them really well in our favor and have since Dabo took over. If our offense looks "elite" vs NCstate then that may tell us a lot b/c NCstate has a pretty solid defense.

Offensive playcalling ...
Sep 23, 2022, 11:59 AM

I'm not nearly smart enough to fully understand and critique our offensive scheme and playcalling; my actual playing experience was limited to peewee/midget leagues in ancient times. Having said that, I have noticed something about our offense. We may run off a couple of good plays for gains, and it feels like we are getting something going. Then we line up, and DJ starts barking out signals, directing players, the stops to look at the sideling, then resumes barking out signals, then stops again to look at the sideline, then claps his hands a time or two, them barks out another signal or two .... all the while, with all of the waiting, and what appears to be indecision, and almost dead silence comes over the crowd, and a dead feeling with it. It's as if any momentum we had, any offensive rhythm or excitement we were building, is completely lost. You can just feel it. Then another similar play follows and the drive is stalled. I don't know what you call that or who exactly is to blame, but it makes me miss the Chad Morris days where we were committed and decisive and wore teams out with our offense.

I'm not sure if this applies to what you are saying or not, but I have felt for the last few years (even when we still had superstars on offense) that we have tried to be extremely smart from a play-calling standpoint and take our time to figure out the perfect play to run for every single play of each game. We have tried to adjust for every defensive adjustment and sometimes we forget that the defense is trying to adjust because they have no chance to stop what we were doing.
I find, as you talked about, that this kills momentum when instead of allowing our rhythm and talent to provide an advantage we have tried to scheme our way to an advantage.
We constantly heard that Tony Elliott was the smartest football coach around and I think that hurts him. He is extremely smart and he only uses his brain to call plays instead of having "game feel".
From my early observations, Streeter is trying to fight between the desire to call the perfect play and the desire to let the flow of the game dictate the calls.
I'm hoping that he will find the sweet spot between the two as the season and his career progress.

If we play 4 good quarters, that means Cade will probably have played a lot as well and have done well too.

I'll definitely eat some crow if DJ plays well the next 2 weeks. Not expecting perfection, but if he doesn't turn it over more than 2x the next 2 weeks and can convert more than 50% of 3rd downs vs solid comp I'll eat that crow and be all in on team DJ. I hope I'm eating crow bc it's good for Clemson if there is no QB issues past week 6.
