getting into the Play-offs.
The 12 team playoff rule explicitly states that the 5 highest ranked conference champs get automatic berths not which conferences. There is a chance albiet small that Army and Boise State could win their respective titles and be ranked higher than either the ACC champ or the Big12 champ which would bounce both of them out. There is a significant chance of at least one of them (ACC or Big12) not making it into the playoffs because they are ranked lower than both Army and Boise State at the end of the season. Then they would have to get in by being ranked as one of the highest remaining teams and there are alot on that list to beat.
All it would take is for Miami to lose again and for us to win the ACC by beating SMU but doing so with a loss to Carloina with both Army and Boise winning out. This is why beating Carolina is very critical to any chances we have of getting into the playoffs. It could end with both Army and Boise State ranked ahead of us and a pile of 1 and 2 loss teams with better rankings also.

That would be great if that happened. It maybe could cause Clemson to make a move regardless of what it cost!!!

All South Carolina has to do is pass a law saying no state college can be held liable for breach of contract for athletics, yada yada yada. Then, leave the ACC. Because Clemson is owned by the state, sovereign immunity would apply and the ACC could not sue Clemson for backing out of their agreement. It's actually very clear-cut on how to get out of the ACC if they wanted to.

How would both conferences get left out?
In your scenario, Army and Boise St are in. So is the SEC and Big10. Who is the 5th team that jumps both ACC and Big12?

Of the top 5 4 of those positions are guaranteed to the top five finishing conference champs and one to the top finishing group of 5 champ. It does not exclude the group of 5 from also having a champ or champs that qualify as one of the top four. If two qualify as top four that leaves a sport for a total of 3 group of five schools.

Your math is off.
There are 5 spots. If G5 takes two, that leaves 3 for P4. That would mean only one of the ACC or Big12 is left out, not both.
