100 meter time J. Haynes.

According to the Alabama High School Track and Field website, Handley is a 4A school and at the regional meet last March Haynes ran an 11.69 100 meters. Not exactly burning up the track. One thing he does do well is catch the ball. His running style is very similar to Travis Zachary. Tends to run on his heels like Travis did.

He ran an 11.69 as a high school junior. I was at that meet last Spring as a friend's son was running in it.

Just like the other guy……sorry but these types of back will not help us win championships…they are just filling a spot bc for some reason we aren’t recruiting well in the RB room……now call me a coot and tell me how these kids will be the next ET……..

Yeah, there's absolutely no documented times out there for him showing running a 10.8 100m. In fact, his best time was 11.35 wind aided. Just for reference, I'm not sure he would win the 100m in the girl's division. More proof that the RB recruiting at Clemson is an absolute mystery and needs to be addressed.

OK, I get it. You complain on another thread that we can't sign running backs and on this one you are complaining about the ones we do sign. I have an idea ...... why don't you wait to see what he does in a Clemson uniform before making a judgement.

I did not see that article. I went to the Alabama official high school league site and last March at the region 3A meet he ran an official 11.69. I’d be leery of any unofficial times. Maybe he ran a hand held 4.41 but it is not evident in his film. He looks more like a 4.6-4.8 guy on film.

Keep in mind Alabama is out of 7A. But yeah, we'll see how fast he is. I've seen him run in person. He was not very fast. But I had a friend in high school who always laser timed slower than he played.

Wayne Gallman ran a 4.57 40 at the combine. Seems like he was pretty darn good for us. Maybe this guy is a football player.

What's your point? ETN ran a 4.40 at our pro day (4.43 official time in high school). Sammy had a 4.43 at the combine and was crushed because he'd been running in the 4.3s. The guy you're replying to is just explaining this guy is more like 4.7 speed, not that he'd necessarily be a bad running back.

Agree. Jerry Rice ran a 4.6 at the combine and we know the rest of the story. Haynes may turn out to be a good player. Just making the point that he has much below average speed for a college RB at any level.

40 time and 100 time could be very different, what is his top end speed, when does he hit top end (40 yards or 60 yards), does he run with power, does he see the holes, can he follow a block, can he block, can he catch, is he coachable? All factor into it, 100 speed is not the big one... can he get a degree?

He was the running back MVP at Auburn's camp where he ran a laser 4.41 and 4.42. There is even video of a 40 from the camp and the reaction from Auburn's head coach on Haynes' Twitter feed. Spiller likes his speed. I think it would be safe to say, he knows speed when he sees it. I ran track in college and 11.6 is slow. I also know that a guy who consistently runs that time can't defeat angles like Haynes does on film. Wayne Gallman and Mafah never ran away from guys that way. Both are around 4.6 on a good day.

But, other than that, straight line time tells you zero about a running back. Elusiveness is the measure of a great running back. How hard is it to get your hands on him, and get him on the ground?
I really find it an abhorrent practice on this site that there are those who want to write off a young man before he even sets foot on campus. Really? C'mon, Guys, we're better than that. How quick we are to forget the lessons of a Wayne Gallman, or even a Travis Etienne, who by the way was a last minute "consolation prize" signing.
I say the heart of this young man, as well as all the others signed today, will be found out and judged fairly on the practice fields and in the heat of battle, not on Tigernet, and thank goodness for that.

I never said write him off. I hope he’s a great success. But please don’t compare him to Gallman or Ettiene. I would suggest going to 247 or Rivals and watching their high school film. Theirs does not compare to his. Does that mean he won’t be a success. No. Obviously the coaches see something we so called experts don’t. Let’s wait and see how he does before we label him a failure. He chose Clemson and should be supported.

Maybe we should be looking for a 4.3 guy who can't catch, break tackles, or hit holes. That should please a lot of posters who are not happy with a dude who averaged 10 yards a carry and had over 500 yards total offense in a game.

who are already at LEAST 195 lbs with breakaway speed AND elusiveness. Like bama and other schools who regularly recruit the best running backs do. Because regardless of how fast he can straight line run right now, at 175 lbs he is a glass figurine. It will be at LEAST a year before he could withstand the college game. We need real RB depth NOW.
