gains are completely on paper (ironically). If he owns 80% (like folks say), he couldn't sell it at the current price...he'd flood the market and the price would plummet.

He has a celebrity-like cult following that makes folks want to own anything with his name on it. It's Taylor Swift-ish.
I go back-and-forth in my tiny brain about whether someone should be able to profit on their celebrity AS President. But if anything is happening at the WH - that's on the tax payer's dime. I guess any gathering would cost us - since SS has to do their thing.

I think the emoluments clause only applies to states the way it is worded. People did try to push it for all the foreign money he received at his businesses the first time around, but that didn't go anywhere. It appears he's free to continue acting like a mob boss until Congress gets some integrity.

holding the job somehow, even if it's just a huge best selling book and artificially high speaking fees. But Trump has elevated (lowered?) it to the most crass, outrageous, illegal forms ever. Even the almost weekly graft of charging the Secret Service to stay a Mara Lago and protect him on the golf course.
This ploy is over the top, and the most obviously illegal. He's pushing all the limits, thank goodness the courts are standing up to him, because Congress isn't

in the first place was to profit off of it. Most presidents wait until after they’ve left office, Trump does as much as he can while being in power.
