Would you have to look up who he is?
He’s by far the best cyclist on the planet, and he’s having another dominant season to date. He’s dominating the Tour de France this year, after arguably the greatest season in cycling history (maybe Eddy Merckx’s 1972 gets the nod b/c The Cannibal is still the GOAT of cycling and nicknames).
We’re being blessed with dominance in his prime, if anyone wants to tune in. Just as an example, he soloed from 35 miles out to win the World Championships last year. An absolute insane feat, and he keeps giving us incredible performance after incredible performance in the biggest races in the sport.

My vote is for Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone. The woman has another gear running 400m hurdles and 400m relay without hurdles. . Look up the videos of her Olympic races last summer. Unbelievable….

You would get no pushback from me if you said Pogacar was the best athlete in the world. I have no idea how those guys ride as far, as fast and do the climbs they do. I am still ticked the Tour is no longer televised because we always enjoyed watching in the mornings.

He/she won the Olympic decathlon in 1976 as Bruce, then endured decades of Kardashian drama and now a lot of public scrutiny and humiliation. That takes a person with a lot of physical and mental fortitude.

Jenner’s olympic performance was unbelievable. Athletes then did not have all of the money and facilities available to them to train for the Olympics. At that time, Jenner was considered the world’s best athlete.

Winning the decathlon in 1976 is by far the greatest achievement in sports history b/c Bruce was running and throwing like a girl on the inside.
Imagine the West German and Soviet athletes who finished 2nd and 3rd when Bruce came out as Caitlyn. The endless ragging their buddies must have done when that happened. “Hey, why don’t you show us that medal you got after losing to a girl.” “Hey, cheer up, you’re now the fastest MAN from 1976.”
I was talking about current athletes.

Probably someone extremely coordinated and not strictly an endurance athlete. A guy like that probably isn't in the top 50k. Most dominant maybe.

Best athlete in the world. Especially in a sport as tarnished as cycling. I just assume everyone is juicing.
I read about a dude yesterday who ran 135 miles in less than 48 hours in Death Valley with daytime temps of 130 degrees; is he a better athelete than Sydney McLaughlin? BTW he’s 66

A guy like Michael Jordan I would consider a better athlete than some distance runner. I was a distance runner and I respect the sport. I am not saying MJ is the best athlete ever though.. it would be so hard to quantify.

The French Rugby scrum half. A star in both 15s and 7s. Speed to score at anytime. Strength, and athleticism to take down players almost 100lbs heavier and the vision to take advantage of any opportunity with the ball in hand. International 7s players are among the fittest athletes.

We heard for a couple of years how athletic DJU was... What about ole' Tiger (or even Jack?) - considered great athlet in a sport that hardly qualifies as athleticism...Jim Thorpe fit the definition pretty good, as he excelled I think in LaCrosse and track, as well as football...Tom Brady? - the ability to microprocess information quickly and last a long time? What about Hammerin' Hank, or Babe, or even Pete Rose? Mere baseball players, right? Simone Biles has to be near the top, too, but that's not a sport about endurance. Ali was quite an athlete...I think you would almost have to go sport by sport on this.

Best player or most dominant to me doesn't mean best athlete. Bo Jackson is a better athlete than Babe Ruth.
