Lost interest in college football

I've been watching Clemson football over 50 years. I still love Clemson, and Clemson football, but with the pay for play setup now I really don't get that upset or excited about wins or losses. Maybe it's old age, but I wish they had figured a better, more equitable way to distribute some money to all players. Now the teams in the biggest markets and richest doners are going to excel. It's just like professional without the contracts tieing a player to a team. Just my two cents.

you realize teams paid for play before the NIL era right lol? Only difference is it was more hush hush. Kids have been getting bags for decades. Only now it's legalized and we perpetuate the myth of the "student athlete" which these kids are not. They're semi-professional athletes. Sad reality.

The difference since NIL it too polarizing

I believe there wasn't a Clemson anywhere that didn't know that PAY for play was going to send college sports, especially college FB into a dark place like we've never seen before. My prayers is that the people that still have some control over college sports will get a handle on this NIL thing and do whatever it takes to make the money fair for all college athletes. If somebody somewhere will do that, it will level back out and make it fun and fair for all once again...

College sports have changed so much the last 5 years. Many people feel the same way you feel.

Agree. Feels like there is almost no connection between the players and the Universities anymore, other than a check for temporary services from a Collective.

I hear you, and I somewhat understand your feelings, but I don't think that old age gives way to those feeling bc I'm old, and I still love Clemson FB and I'm as die hard as I've ever been!!! Go Tigers, beat VT!!!!

they need to bite the bullet and do college salary cap

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

There already is a college salary cap. It's zero dollars.

NIL isn't salary, it doesn't come from the University, and it can't be capped.

That's pretty obvious.

I check other schools' forums from time to time. I don't see any other fan base that conflated those two things nearly as much as occurs here. It seems to be a function of those who support Dabo's methods "no matter what" and look for any excuse to claim that he's doing things "the right way".

That seems to have died down in TNET since the Louisville loss, though. Mostly.

I hear ya loud and clear. I didn’t watch the game. Recorded it for later. Heck first time in ages I didn’t watch Georgia Florida game. I watch when I want but don’t center my life around it like I used to. I’ll treat it like basketball and watch my tigers but tune in for playoffs for rest of the games. It’s a shame what it has become.

Agree. The money paid to players has ruined the “amateur” game. It’s why I’ve pulled my IPTAY $s. I hope I see a fix to all this or the full demise of college football in my lifetime.

And last handful of games over the 5 years I attended gave tix away, didn’t enter stadium but rather walked to the ESSO to eat, have a beer & yell with the younguns watching game on TV and maybe get a dessert if they win. It’s a GAME I finally learned after 66 yrs of anxiety & caring way too much~

badge-donor-10yr.jpgringofhonorlightbulbbill.jpgmilitary_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It will never go back, because the NCAA model is illegal.

NIL is here to stay.
Unlimited transfers are here to stay.

Unless...the athletes become fully paid, form unions, have the right to collective bargains, have the right to strike, and most importantly, the NCAA gets a Congressional antitrust exemption.

In that case, look for the 131 team draft
and no more recruiting.

By comparison, the NFL has those things but only 32 teams.
