The college game needs a pro minor league counterpart and they already have the facilities and organizations. If kids don't want the college aspect of professional preparation - this should be an alternative. The NCAA gets hammered in case after case largely because it is the only game in town. Allow for a pro/paid alternative so colleges can better adhere to their ultimate missions - preparing young men and women for bright futures ahead as learned and accomplished adults.
No one is stopping you or anyone else from creating a professional football league (or basketball league) that will accept 18 year olds. It's already "allowed".
