11 AM CT is preferred start time by both schools

Both schools have come out and said the 11 AM start time is preferred due to the surrounding events of the State Fair of Texas. They've had a couple 2:30 pm kickoffs in the past, but have always asked their TV partners (ESPN & Fox) to kick at 11.

Ultimately, they don't want both fan bases in the fairgrounds all day getting drunk and causing issues inside and outside the stadium.

My experience with it was the losing teams fans tend to head out and not stick around for a day at the fair. It opens at 7 AM and both fanbases get their fill of fair food before kickoff. Winners have fun on the rides, games, etc. afterward. Losers drive home.
