The talent gap between us and GT . . .

Nov 17, 2014, 4:04 PM

Per Rivals,

Clemson has had 26 4-star commitments over the last four years; GT has had 4.

Clemson has had 5 5-star commitments over the last 4 years, GT has had zero.

Somebody is doing a better job at either coaching, recruiting adequate depth, or evaluating talent, because even with the injuries, Clemson should still have had a talent advantage. Whatever you think of star ratings, Clemson has recruited at a much higher level for some time than GT.

Please don't make this point...

you'll get landblasted...

Clemson is more talented than every team on our schedule except FSU and SCU (and UGA the years we play), and it's not even close.

We either blow out teams we out talent, or we struggle mightily in games where coaching is a premium. With the injury to DW, we still out talent BC, Cuse, UofL, GT, etc.. and it's not even close.

He's excellent at pre-game planning and schemming but if things don't go as scripted or as anticipated, making in-game adjustments is not a real strength.

That just means that we either need to change who we got

Nov 17, 2014, 4:31 PM

or Dabo needs to coach the Chad a bit as well.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yep - our offense struggled often in the 1st half this year,

Nov 17, 2014, 4:17 PM [ in reply to Morris reminds me a little of Reggie Herring.... ]

but I can't think of a single time when we adjusted and came out in the second half and turned it around. In fact, their defense usually out-adjusted our O.

Very true

You're on to something

with the adjustments.

Point Sir.

Gameday coaching is a major downfall for us...

Nov 17, 2014, 4:26 PM [ in reply to Please don't make this point... ]

Things that drove me crazy on Sat...

1. Coin Toss - Why give GT...a ball control offense...the opportunity at 1 more possession in the second half? Even with Watson playing, he was rusty AND your D is your strength...Set the tone on the first series and give the O a short field with a 3 and out.
2. Game clock management...TO's wasted...but called it with 1-second? By letting it run earlier, we gave up a chance at a late 1st half score.
3. Screen pass near the goal line?... Roll right and throw left....with no depth to the field and no warm ups?
4. Not even going to start with the QB running plays...not to mention we ran Stoudt on draws the 1st two plays after Watson was injured. He takes a hit and then completes a long TD to Ga Tech.

Against ranked teams, if we don't win, we play horrendous...

Nov 17, 2014, 4:09 PM

This is just absolute poor preparation on Dabo's part. Instead of playing favorites with certain assistant coaches and players, Dabo needs to do what it takes to have the team prepared week in and week out. And that means playing the best players. Dabo's youth pastor approach to coaching is costing us wins against ranked teams.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Most of those have been on D

Nov 17, 2014, 4:13 PM

and our D was absolutely not the problem Saturday.

14 - hard to say. Only Scott, Watson and Choice have made any impact
13- 10 4* or higher. 8 on D
12 - 9 4* or higher. 5 on D
11 - 10 4* or higher. Of the ones still here all are on D.

Strength and Conditioning...Period.

Nov 17, 2014, 4:21 PM

Some guys look the part because they want to work hard...those guys are easy to motivate in the weight room. Beasley is a beast, and can fly around a OT, but can he hold off a 310lb stud OT?

Our OL is big but only 1-2 each year look like OL at Oklahoma, FSU, etc. Not sure what it is, but there is a reason we continue to come up short on 3rd and 4th and 1.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Strength and Conditioning...Period.

Nov 17, 2014, 4:26 PM

Hasn't our s&c staff devolved one of the most dominated lines in the country this year. If they were the problem wouldn't we be weak on both sides of the trenches?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Brad Brownell: more losses than any other coach in school history.

Like I said, some guys know how to get ready and lift...

Nov 17, 2014, 4:29 PM

I give a lot of credit to the leaders on that squad...they have pushed one another.

So why isn't the OL as strong?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

None of that matters when your OL and QB play is garbage

Nov 17, 2014, 4:22 PM

We could've had CJ Spiller and Sammy Watkins on Saturday and still not move the ball.

Re: Like i've been sayin

Nov 17, 2014, 4:23 PM

the problem is where? Figured this one out 3 years ago.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The Key is QB

Nov 17, 2014, 4:28 PM

It is hard to weigh every position as if every position matters the same. You need to weight the positions to really compare teams on talent and you have to really focus on the QB position in the college game.

Saturday - regardless of the overall differential in talent - their QB was much much better than ours and that pretty much was the difference in the game.

I'd put forth the following.

QB Comparison (40%) - CU to GT
Everybody else - 60%

I would say that this (or something close to it) would apply to most team comparisons.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I agree.

Nov 17, 2014, 4:32 PM

Both QBs were the difference in the game.

Re: The talent gap between us and GT . . .

Nov 17, 2014, 4:31 PM

Clemson has won against GT the past two years before this, and the only reason GT won this year was due to Watson's injury. Clemson has had better years than GT in 2011, 2012, and 2013. Let GT have the same injuries on offense as Clemson and see how they do.

Turnovers negate talent. Option offense negates talent

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You can have all the talent in the world but it starts with

Nov 17, 2014, 4:56 PM

the QB. We would have beat Tech but Watson got hurt.
