I was shocked at how threadbare it was when I attended a game there in 2008. I expected more. But I worked in Massena for 6 months and Glens Falls the previous year and love upstate NY.

elementary school teacher was from there and was a Cuse graduate.
Have enjoyed trips into upstate New York, finding the people inviting and friendly and the scenery beautiful. Virtually all of the Cuse people I have met have been great and happy to be a part of the conference. Those who have visited Clemson were extremely complimentary.

Thanks for the compliment. Central New York is a great place to live. Its not "NY" like NYC is. I've loved my 2 clemson visits so much. Amazing experience and great people. Good luck Saturday

...That's why traveling and actually living in place outside your comfort zone gives such meaningful life experiences.
I remember before I moved to Jordan wondering how the people were going to be. Lovely, lovely people they are.

Just to psychoanalyze you a little, you denigrating our town and dome is due to the fact that its an effing house of horrors for your program. You'll reply that it has nothing to do with it. But its a fact. I love it. Haha. bring the hate. We are your biggest rival in the past 5 years and it makes you uncomfortable. So instead of complimenting our program you go with the "craphole" stuff. Its so easy to analyze psychologically.

More like those annoying little gnats that fly straight into your eyeballs if you dont swat them away in time. Again, only 1 win for cuse in the nearly decade of being in the conference. Ill grant you there have been some pretty intense games though.

"Rival"? LOL....1-9 against us. FSU is our rival. Cuse and its joke of a football program, not so much. THIS is what we think about Syracuse. Trash. Swofford should never have added Syracuse to the ACC.

Yep. Our company had a contract in Rome, NY and I would fly in and out and stay in Syracuse twice a month for four years. I would not say it is a crap hole, but I would say it is like EVERY other city in New York state. It is obviously in decline with it's best days behind it. The median income is a full $10,000 lower than Greenville and dropping. The total tax burden is 3 times higher also. That amounts to me feeling sorry for what those folks have to deal with. The state there is always in a desperate money grab because of their ridiculous spending.
I got a speeding ticket there once about 5 years ago. 65 in a 50. The fine was 185 dollars. Then the state of NY extorted me for 50 dollars for every point on my driver's license no matter where the points came from. I had 4 points on my license before the ticket then they gave me two more for a total of 6 X $50 for a total of $300 in addition to the "fine." It's like that because everywhere in NY is crappy even if they tell you it is not.

I would not say anything really bad about Syracuse other than you got swamped by an awful state dominate by one city.
One of the funniest stories I had in all my travels happen up in the area...I forget if it was Rome of Syracuse. We got off the job late and scrounged to find an open restaurant as it was getting really close to 9:00. My boss spotted and Italian place that looked to be open so we stopped and went in. The place was empty except for one table that had 6 large Italianish looking men in various states of 5 o'clock shadow.
We sat down (a sign said, seat yourself) and began waiting. After about 5 minutes one of the men got up from the table and in an obviously annoyed fashion came over to our table. "Wadda Yah want?" My boss cautiously said "Dinner?". Then the man turned and grabbed four menus and tossed them on the table. after that he just stood there. As soon as we picked them up he said, "Wadda Yah want?" again. My boss obviously having led us into this said, "I want the Chicken Marsal..." but got cut off immediately. The "waiter" cut him off and said, "you want the lasagna." and wrote it down. He then gave me a harsh look. I said, "I'll have the lasagna also". The other two guys picked up and did the same. To this our waiter said, "Smart boys". It was in fact some of the best lasagna ever. We all took water to drink and got billed for house wine, but that is beside the point. In the end, we paid cash and left a big tip which seemed to get approval. We were all just glad to leave without a mob beating.

Also in the Syracuse airport, I saw one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen in my life. She was tall, dressed in a white nice fitting dress with a long white fur coat on. This woman was so beyond gorgeous that even the women and babies stopped and looked with their mouths open in awe. She passed down through the terminal like a wave. The place became silent as she moved along. People just stopped talking and looked on in amazement. It can't be expressed in words, but as a man who has traveled extensively all over the world, it was literally jaw-dropping. I think it was even more memorable because it was in Syracuse where it was not really expected.

Upstate NY is tremendous, imo. That winter weather, however - not only is it a pain to shovel and snowblow mountains of ice and snow every year, but the taxes maintain to the roads is terrible. The last town I lived in New England - we had 7,500 people and had over 260 private and public snowplows on the town's payroll. The massive amounts of salt and sand and thousands of man hours is an invisible "tax" on Northerners. And of course, the freezing and thawing of the roads causes bigger issues and a shorter life of the asphalt, too. Most southern folks don't have an appreciation for what it actually costs the public to endure those winters. Good luck this weekend - maybe El Nino will deliver a mild winter!

Why do you feel the need to denigrate someone else’s home? Why can’t you just be proud of yours and appreciate that there are good people everywhere? The Syracuse fans are always welcome in Clemson. We have met some great people over the years at our tailgate. Go Tigers! C 42 and S 17

I went to the Syracuse game four years ago with two buddies. It was an awesome road trip.
We started out in Cooperstown, of course to see the Baseball HOF, but also we wanted to visit the Ommegang brewey (a beautiful Belgian-style brewery just outside of town). We pulled up to Ommegang that Thursday afternoon and the parking lots were blocked off - the brewery was closed for some special event. Undeterred we went down the road to Red Shed brewing and spent the afternoon and early evening there. Then headed into Cooperstown to check into our rooms and have a nightcap or two. We found a little bar with Thursday night football on and got some drinks, and started talking to some of the folks in the bar. Turns out that most of them were higher-ups at Ommegang and their parent company Duvel, and the brewery was closed that day for company meetings. One of the guys said that they had a behind-the-scenes tour of the HOF planned for the next morning if we wanted to go (uh yeah of course we did).
Next morning we go into the HOF front entrance, then down some stairs into their vault. They had everyone put on cotton gloves and got out items like Babe Ruth’s bat, Ty Cobb’s cleats, Mickey Mantle’s glove, etc. Unbelievable stuff for anybody who is remotely a baseball fan. After maybe 45 minutes in the vault we went up and toured the rest of the place which is impressive! But it goes to show how good things can happen if you go out to bars and talk to people.
Afterwards we stopped at Ommegang for lunch then on to Syracuse. Dinner at Dinosaur Jr BBQ was legit. Saturday we went to a tailgate with my cousin who’s a police officer outside Syracuse. The folks were fantastic - not much trash talking though I suspect they knew what was coming. Then off to a Clemson win, a good night’s sleep, and a flight home the next day.
Great trip for sure!
