The New SEC?
Jul 3, 2022, 4:21 PM
|
|
The SEC East adds FLST and Clemson.
TX and OK are placed in the SEC West.
Seems logical if this were to happen.
1. TX and OK maintain annual rivalry. 2. Clemson and SC do the same. 3. Clemson gets GA back on the annual schedule. 4. Clemson maintains historic ACC battle w/ FLST. 5. FL/FLST maintain an annual Florida rivalry. 6. Structure is logical for geographical makeup of conference. 7. The chickens aren’t worthy of anything other than an annual beatdown. If it’s in conference, so be it. Tradition maintained- 8. This settles regionalism within the conference. Only one team from SC, TX, and FL have a path to the SEC Championship. Each instate rivalry is a playoff game. 9. The best true matchup of modern era, national championship contenders is intact for the SEC Championship; Clemson vs. Alabama.
Trying to remember that life is about change.
Quite a new dynamic for Tiger and SEC fans alike having opportunity to experience one another’s Gameday environments. We have a great one that would be cool to share beyond the historic norms of the current ACC.
Lastly, there would be a certain validation if Clemson moves to the SEC, maintains the standards on the field and in the classroom, AND wins a championship doing it Dabo’s way, doing it the right way.
I’m All-In regardless folks.

It may make sense but I have a hard time believing Alabama, LSU, A&M, Texas and Oklahoma, not to mention the other 4 will all be in the same division. Talk about imbalance.

If you apply this to Nattys since the CFP era began;
National Championships-
4-SEC West Alabama and LSU 3-SEC East Georgia and Clemson 1-BIG. OHCryO St
Honorable mention for FLST winning the last BCS.

that would lobby for Clemson to be in the SEC West. He would figure we get beat up, lose three or four games a year, and he could say "See, I told you so!" He is forgetting who is the only team to beat Bama for Nattys lately.

Dumbo doesn't have a vote. UGA and Uof7C wouldn't vote to allow Clemson in for obvious reasons. I also doubt TA&M would vote yes either. That's 3 no votes and it would require the other 11 (current 14 team) conference schools to vote yes to extend the invitation. If they include Texas and OK, yes for OK and probably no from Texas since Clemson is recruiting so good in Texas. That's back to the same situation that the other 11 have to vote yes before the invitation is extended.

Not sure Texas would be a no, but I see your reasoning.
This is simply the option I hate least if the ACC ends up folding.

I agree. At this point, I pretty much sit back and watch and try to take everything light heartedly. And you're right, Texas may vote yes just because TA&M and Jimbo vote no.

No,they dont. But please recognize the addition of the University of Texas brings far more modern day value than Clemson could ever contribute. Dont get mad, no other current SEC member does either, including Bama. Texas is a global brand, deep pockets, 30 million state residents. No contest. Clemson is one Tiger aming many. There is only one Longhorn.

SEC by-laws say an invitation to add a school cannot be made unless at least 75% of the conference schools approve the invitation. With 14 teams, all it takes is 4 no votes or with 16 teams 5 no votes and the invitation does not go out. Just saying Uof7C would be a no vote. Uof7C can't keep Clemson out by themselves.

saddis if South Carolina votes no

Then Clemson should cut all ties with them. Clemson has no more to prove to South Carolina. We beat their brains in every year. And playing them weakens our strength of schedule. I'd much rather play Oklahoma or Alabama every year. Or maybe Ohio State.

Under the old rules you may be right. Now that they are moving towards a super conference I think Georgia etc would rather have us than the BIG get us
