National Athletic Association.
Collegiate has nothing to do with it. The rules are set where academics are irrelevant. Graduation is meaningless. Kid doesn't graduate = no punishment to the institution. Kid graduates = no benefit to the institution.
Just admit it. NAA uses the name, image and likeness of the college, but other than that, the college is of no use.
If nothing changed about UGA football except the athletes did not even have to enroll in classes, much less attend, then it wouldn't make an iota of difference the the National Athletic Association.

Yep made this point before, there are a lot of kids that can do the math and realize how rare (and short) an NFL career is and make the decision to take the tremendous opportunity in front of them to graduate with a top tier degree and zero debt. But for those who don’t care and cheat/ do the bare minimum, they shouldn’t be forced to occupy a seat in class and use university and tutoring resources that could be allocated to student athletes or h*ll even just students who want/need it

Most of them don’t really have sights on the NFL these days. They are just looking at which college will pay them millions. A whole lot easier to make millions with NIL than the NFL.

Indiana is the talk of the football world. Their first year HC has already been given an extension. How did this happen to a lower level team in the Big 10? The answer is they brought in 31 transfers for this school year. South Carolina is the same having 37 seniors this year. I predict their program will collapse next year as Beamer jumps off the sinking ship goes to Virginia Tec.

Colleges have to set up some sort of faux academic program to keep kids eligible. This is getting easier and easier to do (on line classes, fluff majors, etc.) And, they don't have to actually be working towards a degree. The whole "academic requirements" are a joke. Just a cover so the universities can claim they care about academics. Academics are optional.
I wonder what DJU's academic load is this semester. How about Marvin Jones, Jr. or Patrick Payton. Heck, I wonder what Jared Verse's academic program was his two years here.
We had a DL who spent the off week in the Bahamas. I'm sure he took his books and diligently kept up with his on-line classes (which are all of his classes) very seriously.

I didn't mention that there were a few schools, like Clemson, who actually recruit kids who want to graduate and work diligently to help them with their academic progress and do not consider academics a nuisance to be dealt with.

But, it has had less and less to do with it for the past 50+ years.
How many kids sign with a school because of the name of the school? How many kids enter the transfer portal thinking, "I really want to go (name that school) because of the name of that school."
How many kids sign with a college because "I will get the best education possible, get a degree, and be set for a solid foundation for life if I go to (name that school)?

Now it's just out in the open.
And since I finished Ted Lasso last night and am now an expert in fewtball, I think college football will eventually land on a Champions/Premiere/Relegation league model.
They'll retain university branding, but will be independent of the university's oversight. They'll owe the university an annual nut, of course, but they'll maintain their own balance sheets, revops structures, and employees, and players of course with four-year contracts.
All players will have to enroll in the uni and pay tuition up to the four-year in-state/out-of-state cost (whichever applies). And if they choose not to attend the classes they're paying for, that's their loss.
So it won't be the Florida State University Seminoles. It'll be the Florida State University Football Club (FC) - Seminoles. And jacklegs like Norvell and Uigealalgaioai will come and go like shingles.
The best clubs will enjoy the lionshare of the dough and trophies, the lesser programs will get the leavings, but will have a reason to keep working at it because of the promotion/relegation model.

Actually I care a lot about how we run our football program at my alma mater. 99% graduation rate is something to be proud of and continue to aspire to; 41% graduation rate is something to be ashamed of but of course dawg fans could not care less as long they are winning.
