needs to stay the hell of the PSU mess and use some of this energy to go after SEC schools that are known cheaters and violators of recruiting policies...what a joke of an organization

The NCAA was and is supposed to be regulating an equitable playing field with member institutions. While I understand the need to implement whatever power they think they have here, it simply is not their mandate.
Will the NCAA begin to regulate disciplinary actions against players? If a player has been arrested for say possesion of marijuana and is allowed back on team and then has a DUI arrest with a crash, is theteam now responsible to the NCAA?

and I never said it was equal to. The issue at hand is the appropriateness of the NCAA to render punishment. This is a legal issue not an NCAA compliance issue. Sandusky should be punished. Paterno's name is ruined for making a bad decision about another's actions. Former PSU officials have been indicted. This just does not fall within the scope of the NCAA. The point of my argument is if the NCAA decides to take this action with no mandate and punish retroactively, where is the line drawn. What happens when the NCAA decides retroactively that it needs flex its muscle against other schools including Clemson.
There was a murder investigation at Baylor concerning the basketball team and there was a cover up there. However, the NCAA did not punish the Bears for that, only for the recruiting violations that occured.

Ok, what if this had come out in 2000 and JoePa was fired then? Penn State would've been seen in a bad light back then and he would've looked bad for covering this up for a few years. You with me still? Now it's Nov. 2011, and all this is just coming out. Do you not see that for more than 11 years the reputation of PSU is false and they have an "athletic advantage"?????? The NCAA DOES have jurisdiction over that!!!!!

We all feel that ###### a child is one of the worst crimes someone can committ. No arguing that.
But what the NCAA is grandstanding IMO.
If they are going to do this sanction, then they set a precedent for every illegal act that happens on a team.
The Baylor murder was a good example. It happened under the watch of Baylor Coaches and Staff, why didnt hey get punished.
And what about the Carolina coach peeing in public. What if there was kids witnessing that. Will the NCAA come in and punish USC for that?

Do those things put said universities in a bad light? Would they gain positive public perception if those things were kept from the public, in turn helping recruiting, keeping public funding ie. game attendance, product sales etc. etc., and gaining an "athletic advantage"? If so, they should be punished if individuals employed by said institution covered them up!!!!!

That's a subjective argument. How can you quntify how much of a competitive advantage. How much would it have hurt them if they would have come out and said, we had conflicting stories in 1998, the campus police did not pursue it further. Now that we have the facts we are taking this action. I'm not arguing what happened wasn't horrible. It just isn't the NCAA's business.

Well ok then. How much of a "competitive advantage" did the coots staying in the Whitney for free give USuC? We didn't know while they were staying that it was happening. Does that mean the NCAA should just move on?
