Hurry-up offenses may put players at greater risk of injury

Jul 16, 2013, 9:27 AM

So you can have 360 lb behemoths on the line of scrimmage and 220 lb defensive backs and that doesn't put opposing teams at risk. But if you have a hurry up offenses that does.

Give us a break Stewart.

Hurry-up offenses may put defenses at risk of suffering RUTS

Isn't this the real issue that has some coaches concerned?

But hurry up offenses are the future of the game. Unfortunately the days of the mammoths on the offensive and defensive lines are gone.

I feel like coaches are using this argument because they know with the guys they have in place, they are unable to get them in shape to compete with these quicker offenses. Football is a game is finesse and speed. Look at how often Oregon is up in the BCS standings. Yes, I get they are in the PAC-12, but their offense will run up numbers on almost anyone. Those guys are in top physical shape and will physically wear another team down.

Going forward, coaches, like Saban for example, are on board with putting rules in place to slow the game down because he knows his type of gameplay cannot keep up with that of the likes of Oregon or Clemson.

Please forgive me, @IneligibleUser

Build depth on defense, substitute liberally

Adapt or shut the hell up and lose.

I thought the d couldn't substitute unless the o did. I'm not saying it's a rule. I know I wouldn't want players running on and off the field or trying to share the defensive signal call when the ball is snapped.

O has to rotate backs/WRs eventually

Jul 16, 2013, 1:13 PM

Can't expect to leave all of your #1's out there as often as you do against a more traditional offense. Sometimes you don't have a choice, but that's more of a talent acquisition/development problem.

The more plays there are, the more chances of an injury.

It's like saying the longer you live, the higher chance you have of dying.
