The Last 5 Star

Jan 17, 2018, 7:45 AM

Our family tailgates in Lot 5, and Oliver Purnell and his staff parked right behind us. Ollie was at most every football game. Milton Jennings, our last 5 star basketball recruit was signed and his freshman season was about to start. OP came over to our tent, sipping a bud light and looking for a bottle of water for his wife. So I asked him.

"Coach, this Jennings kid has so much hype. Is he a one and done kind of talent."

He almost choked on his brewski and started laughing. He said. "No no no. He has a long way to go. He has played mostly private schools. He's got a great frame but he's a project 5 star."

Now I'm not saying that Zion is a project 5 star AT ALL, but I'm going to temper my expectations. He's killing 5'4" private school kids, but if and when he becomes a Tiger, I don't think it instantly puts us in the Final Four. And i have seen ZW play in person. There is no comparison to what he can do and what Jennings was doing at the same level. ZW is a freak and I hope he is Tiger in a few days! Go Tigers!

I haven't seen him play live but I've heard he also dominates his AAU league. I think I remember his team have gone toe to toe with one of the Ball kid's team from the West Coast. It seems that this day in age, high school is just a formality. They get all their competition year round in AAU.

He alone will not take us to the final four ofcourse. That said he is one and done for sure. He could play in the NBA now. He dominates against any high school team or AAU team. He has played big high schools plenty of times and he has played against the best of the best his age.

Hope ZW spends all summer....

shooting from 17 feet and out

everyone is going to play off him

and you know the coward refs during road games in Durham / CH will automatically give him 2-3 offensive charges during his drives to the bucket

floaters, pull up j's, and 17-20 footers

with that in his arsenal, this is a final 4 type team (especially if C Brown joins him !!)
