I think the most remarkable thing about yesterday's hearing

Jul 13, 2018, 11:14 AM

is how it was perceived by each side. I watched a good bit of it, without commentary--just the hearings. I felt like it was mostly unproductive grandstanding from both sides. It seemed like a particularly bad look for the Republicans, repeatedly asking the same question, and repeatedly failing to corner Strzok with a bunch of gotchas that seemed so can't-miss when they wrote them.

Then I flip over to FOX for an hour or so after the hearing (I do this once or twice a month), and holy shit. I see why this country is so divided and screwed. Brian Kilmeade, sitting in for Tucker, asked some guy "so was this a really bad day for Strzok, or was this a really terrible day for the FBI in general?" And the answer was "Terrible for Strzok, which means it was an absolutely horrific day for the FBI, and all credibility is gone now." I'm like "wut".

Hannity confirmed that yesterday was absolute, decisive proof of the Deep State. I don't think Hannity even believes what he's saying, but he understands the strategy. The Deep State. What a fucking buzzphrase. How many people here besides Memphis and xtiger truly believe that the FBI, DOJ, and other Washington services and bureaus staffed by tens of thousands of people, with officers appointed by both parties, are now purely punitive tools of the Democrats, staffed entirely by people who are "out to get Trump"? I mean, what more proof could you possibly need than Peter Strzok?

it's interesting to me

Jul 13, 2018, 11:19 AM

to see the way that things happen. it also shows the silly tactics used by both sides to slow things down or stall or whatever.

like the motion to something and how quickly the guy cited rule 7 section 3 that a motion is always available. then they voted to table it, then had to do a roll call vote. then gowdy said pass like 4 times. then they wanted votes to count multiple times based on the committee that they were in.

seeing the process is cool, seeing the tactics makes you realize why they can't get sheet done

What's even more remarkable

Jul 13, 2018, 11:20 AM

Is Gohmert hasn't had a hate aneurysm yet. That dude is totally unhinged and without an ounce of self awareness....which pretty much describes most of the people I know from his district...so, I guess in retrospect, he's good.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The lack of self awareness is...odd.

Jul 13, 2018, 11:23 AM

He's vein-popping angry at the guy who is smirking after cheating on his wife, because that guy is biased against...a smirking guy who cheated on his wife. While she was pregnant.

Make that

Jul 13, 2018, 11:37 AM

Cheated on 3 wives, multiple times... but yea, Gohmert is the worst but so are his constituents. He represents what is probably the shittiest, most run down, racist district in Texas, which is saying something.

You do not get the same feeling when watching CNN or msnbc

I didn't watch any of their commentary, but I'm certain

Jul 13, 2018, 11:27 AM

it was the exact opposite of what Kilmeade and Hannity were proffering. So, are you absolutely convinced that the Deep State is really a thing, and the entirety of the FBI and DOJ are so corrupt that whatever they find, regardless of how factual it may be, can't be trusted?

Here's an even more reductive question: is there ANYTHING that could be uncovered about Trump and his ties to Russia, that might give you pause regarding a conflict of interest with the security of our nation?

have it on in the background part of the day while digging out from behind endless rows of moving boxes.

Did you think Strzok came off as credible?

Heck, I agree with Strzok that his personal texts ought to have remained personal, but dang, what in the world was he thinking sending that kind of stuff over a government issued device. That's just shear stupidity...especially from a counter-intel investigator.

But back to his testimony, I thought he came off poorly when trying to address some of the text messages and what he meant by them. Especially, the "we're going to get Trump" (paraphrased) ones.

I've noticed that today...

Jul 13, 2018, 11:45 AM

With the plethora of memes on Facebook by each side.

I don't see how anyone who watched it didn't come away thinking both the GOP and the Dems looked stupid. GOP billy bad ### grandstanding and Dems grandstanding on things that had nothing to do with the hearing.

Honestly, Strzok came away looking like the only person who didn't appear stupid.

It seemed to be a pretty straight forward issue:
-He made texts he shouldn't have made on work phones.
-The texts really shouldn't have been taken that seriously, just like #### we all text shouldn't be.
-GOP members wanted to make a bigger deal about them than they were.
-He was cleared by the IG report and the hearing was pointless.
-It took hours just to have GOP yell at him while Dems yelled back at them.
-It was pointless.
-It was pointless.
-There's no deep state and it's stupid to believe it. It was just a dude expressing his joking opinion where he shouldn't have.

Investigated with nothing going on but him being removed from the investigation.

This is all show to get sound bites.

The guy is a piece of #### for cheating on his wife. He's an idiot for those texts on a work phone. But he's not some puppet master.

The truely despicable part was the greenlott or whatever. Telling him he couldn't consult with FBI lawyers. The Dems where pretty much there making sure his civil liberties we're protected while the Republicans we're trying to subvert them.

What is interesting is the look of the staffers behind these congressional leaders and the sideways glances they were giving when somebody said something ridiculous.

In the end this is nothing but political football. Nothing will come out of it but sound bites. Republicans will win with their base for sticking it to the deep state. Dems will win with their base for protecting the FBI. And everybody will. Lose. If I was stryct or whatever it is, I would pull a Howard Hughes and be like, if you have a crime then charge me, if not peace I'm out

I saw that. I flipped back and forth between Fox and other networks. Fox just makes stuff up. It's astonishing.
