The key to this game is all about how good VT's O-Line is.

Does anyone have a gauge? If we can consistently rush 4 like we did against Louisville then we should be able to control the game against a freshman QB. If their OL is good then we may have a last possession type finish. And that usually means its won or lost on special teams. Their special teams are always good.

LG Wyatt Teller will definitely be playing on Sundays, and LT Yoshua Nijman probably will too. The right side of the OL isn't quite as good, but overall this is probably the best VT OL we've had in a decade or so.

Our entire D-Line will be playing on Sundays. Should be an interesting match-up.

Its interesting that Dexter Lawrence only played about 25 snaps, I know the foot surgery has affected his burst off the line of scrimmage. Having said that I think it depends on our D-Line being able to get pressure up the middle and be in the face of the quarterback. On offense we just need to finish drive and flip field position when we get back up to start a drive.

Trying to remember from the WV game but I'm pretty sure they primarily only rushed 4 most of the game (besides the obvious rushing downs). WV seemed to get pretty good pressure so with our caliber of lineman we should do pretty well.

WVU only had 1 sack and 3 QB hurries in that game.

WVU didn't really have a ton of success pressuring Josh Jackson. They did a great job against the run, though.

Their OL will not be as good as our DL.

agree with that, but VT doesnt do 5 step drops. If clemson can get constant pressure rushing just the 4 it will be a long night, but I dont think Fuente will let that happen. Why it is going to be interesting to see.

Fuente doesn’t want that to happen but he may not get a say. Auburn also thought they were going to block our guys and they ended the night with 11 sacks

I have watched very little of their games

It's tough to learn anything anyway from watching the first week, and games against 3 overmatched teams.
But... According to their depth chart, their OL consists of 3 Seniors and 2 Juniors, and averages 6'-4.5", 309lbs. They are big and experienced, and will not be a pushover by any means.
I'd feel better about it if we didn't have so many nagging injuries in the secondary. I'm still confident in our starters at cb, but the depth is not great right now with Fields, Edmonds, and Mullen all questionable.
Getting some coverage sacks will be key to throwing their qb off his game, and being able to apply pressure with just the front 4. Also, trusting your CBs on an island is key to sending blitzes effectively.

so it seems the Clemson secondary has lack of experienced depth as well? our secondary took a hit this week with one of our safeties being out for the year with a broken foot. We get Alexander back, but losing Deablo hurts.

Well, we have some experienced depth, but several of them have had minor injuries. Mullen went out last game with a concussion, so up to concussion protocol now on whether he's in or not, Mark Fields also slightly banged up, and Marcus Edmond (key guy in some games last year) also hasn't returned yet from his preseason injury. They are moving our experienced safety K'Von Wallace back to CB to help (he mostly played CB prior, but they moved him to safety due to an injury to Van Smith), looks like Smith may return for this game.

Well, it looks like Mullen has been cleared from concussion protocol, and Fields has practiced the last 2 days. Sounds like we're good to go
