It opened at Clemson -7. Heavy betting on FSU pushed the line down. That’s all there is to make of it.

FSU is a tough matchup for us. Jordan Travis is exactly the sort of highly mobile QB who causes problems for us, and he's got some really good targets on the perimeter. Johnny Wilson is this truly massive 6'7" receiver who is averaging 20 yards a catch and can jump over the moon, and Ontaria Wilson is averaging 16.6ypc himself...they have yet another guy, Oregon transfer Mycah Pittman, who's also grabbed 21 catches this year. (In contrast Antonio Williams is our leading pass-catcher this season with 22 catches, and he's only averaging 11.7 yards per grab.)
They also have two RB's averaging more than 6 yards per carry. Shipley's averaging 5.9 and Mafah 4.2.
Their offense is 23rd overall (of 131 teams) in the nation. We rank 55th overall in comparison. The weird part is scoring offense. We score a lot of points - 18th overall, nationally, at 39.3ppg. FSU is only 59th overall and scores 31.3 so they often seem to move the ball freely between the 20's and choke in the Red Zone. They should be scoring a lot more points than they have been.
Their D, statistically, has been right there with ours as well. We rank 24th overall in the nation so we're climbing back into the elite...but FSU is 27th overall and they have a vicious pass rush.
They do some weird stuff, they go 3-and-out a lot, but they're way more explosive than we are on offense too. They're going to be playing like it's their Super Bowl, as everyone does against us.
If we mess around like we did against BC, we will lose. They are way better and more dangerous than BC is.
This is a substantially improved FSU team. And we absolutely have to be disciplined and keep Jordan Travis bottled up or he could seriously hurt us, and we cannot afford Bad DJU wasting a quarter or a half lurching around and tripping over his own feet as has been his wont at times even this year, or WR's dropping balls that hit them in the hands.
This is not a gimme game, and if FSU was in the SEC they'd still be ranked...and they should be.

Y’all must not have watched nc state game , yes fsu is improved and the culture seems to changing a little but even at their place there is no reason we lose this game … IF we come out and play a decent first half … we are getting some guys back on defense and our d line when healthy is the best in country , the young secondary is starting to find the ball and looking better … take away a couple big drops by our WR and a couple of our games including nc state and BC would have looked a lot worse … I see a 28-10 type of game

I think our D can handle them. Vegas doesn’t respect our offense, obviously. Too inconsistent, too many WR drops, DJ is still too late getting the ball out WAAAAYYY too often and can’t take advantage of defenses who utterly disrespect his passing ability and key on the run.
Two or three years ago Clemson would have had 63 points on the board against that BC team and the backup QB would have been in the game to stay by halfway thru the third quarter. Not anymore.
We have definitely improved over last season, but anyone who thinks Clemson is truly ready to compete and win in the CFP final four is nuts. Dabo knows that and has basically said as much. Thank goodness we still have six games to work on the offense and get healthy on defenseZ

It's simple. They don't think we are that good and they doubt us. They think the ACC socks and we might be nothing special as well on the road vs a "dangerous" team.

I don't know what you're missing but it could be some combination of these things:
1) It's on the road. That's worth at least a few points on the line
2) FSU is pretty good. They don't have alot of depth but they have some playmakers on both sides of the ball. Jordan Travis and those WRs WILL test our secondary. This offense is much, much better than what we've faced in the last 2 weeks.
3) Many of the metrics aren't terribly high on Clemson. FPI still has around 6th I think but SP+ has us way down at #13. Our defensive numbers were hurt by some bad performances early in the year, and our offense has been pretty stop-and-start all season. Vegas uses models similar to these to set lines.

Clemson does not have 2 teams. Same one shows up every week. Slow start, fast finish. The first game we play a full 4 qtrs we will destroy whoever we're playing.
