Talking Tuesday: Swinney says no letdown allowed following Notre Dame (AUDIO)

October 6, 2015 by Phil Kornblut

Clemson has put itself in great shape nationally with the 4-0 start including the thrilling win over Notre Dame last weekend. The Tigers are 6th in both polls and are very much in the discussion for the College Football Playoff. That’s why this Saturday’s game with Georgia Tech in Death Valley is so dangerous.
It’s the dreaded trap game for the Tigers, that game that follows an extreme emotional high and offers up a dangerous, if not somewhat overlooked, opponent. Georgia Tech and its triple option offense is the next opponent and Dabo Swinney said Tuesday the Yellow Jackets have their full attention despite their current three game losing streak.
Some of Swinney’s key comments:
Georgia Tech is explosive on offense, 12 of 28 TDs in two minutes or less. Have to be discipline on defense.
Have to be ready to play four downs, said “they kicked our butts” last season.
Proud of team, goal was to be 4-0 but said 4-0 doesn’t make the season.
Expects team to be focused coming off Notre Dame win, hasn’t been the culture in recent years for a let down.
Turnover margin vs Georgia Tech is critical. If you turn it over against them you usually lose.
Feels defense will be ready because they play Tech every year and played Wofford this season. Spent 2 weeks of camp working on triple option.
No plan to redshirt DJ Reader, he graduates in December, not sure when he’ll be back.
The story line of the team thus far has been how well they’ve run the ball, and he knows they can throw.
Ryan Norton is better but is still out for Georgia Tech. Hope to have him back for Boston College. Guillermo has played well.
Team in good shape health wise. Austin Bryant only one banged up last weekend but he’ll be able to play this weekend.
Swinney said he just blurted out b-y-o-g in post game TV interview, just came to him as he was talking.
Mike Williams goes back to doctor Wednesday. He is doing better. Will be back at some point.
Lakip entered PTI and did all of his community service and the charges are cleared from his record.

Georgia Tech leads the series 51-27-2 and has more wins over Clemson than any other school.
Home team has won each of the last six regular season games.
Clemson has a 12 game winning streak in Death Valley, one win shy of the stadium record.
Clemson is ranked 6th, its highest ranking since reaching #4 on November 24th, 2013.
Clemson is 10-1 in games decided by 7 points or less since the beginning of 2011 season.
Death Valley is sold out for Saturday, the fifth straight sellout dating back to last season.
Georgia Tech is the least penalized team in the nation with just 11 flags thru 5 games.

Series actually tied at 18-18-1 since they started playing at Clemson in 1974***

Re: Series actually tied at 18-18-1 - irony

Oct 6, 2015, 2:14 PM

the series lapsed because we beat them in 74 in Clemson and we wanted home and home for the new contract but they said no. when they joined the ACC a few years later it was home and home. Also many years GT was independent and could bring in as many players as they wanted on scholarship. they'd sign 60, 70 or more a year
