talk is he'll be at least a 3 star and maybe a four. just a backwoods small school, under the radar and a late bloomer. FSU was starting to get involved or had just offered him when he committed to Clemson.

Phillip Price wasn't much either coming out of high school

Aug 2, 2012, 9:39 PM

probably best OL other than Freeman last year

Barry Richardson is another that comes to mind on the OL

Aug 2, 2012, 9:59 PM

also Andre Branch and Gaines Adams were former 2 star players.

I hope Price gets a shot at the pros. I worry his injury in that accident may prevent that

Backwoods small school?? Coffee County plays in

Aug 3, 2012, 10:58 AM [ in reply to Re: The coaches must have really seen some hidden talent in ]

conference 1-AAAAAA which includes Valdosta, Lowndes and Camden County so the young man plays against strong competition every week.

One of the recruiting gurus has him as a 3*.

Aug 2, 2012, 10:00 PM

I think he might be under the radar.

HS Coach’s comments

Aug 2, 2012, 10:12 PM

His HS Coach said Maverick is a grade ahead of his age. He is only 16

He also said Maverick had grown a lot since last football season.
(like 3 inches & 35-40 lbs)
Coach believes he will being getting attention this year,
now that he is 6'5" & 290 lbs.

We have had 5 first-team all-ACC OL since 2006.

Aug 2, 2012, 10:14 PM

Per Rivals:

One was a 4-star (Dalton Freeman)
Two were 3-Stars (Chris Hariston, Chris McDuffie)
Two were 2-stars (Barry Richardson, Nathan Bennett)

We hear all the time that OL is the most difficult position of all to evaluate and project coming out of HS; this appears to be reflected in the star-ratings as well. It seems to be as much about development as it is raw talent, maybe more so; certainly more so than any other position.

Granted, the OL has not exactly been a strength for quite some time, but I wouldn't worry so much about the star-ratings here.

He's a behemoth, and still growing. Also, a very humble, blue-collar kid. He'll fit right in.

Aug 3, 2012, 12:06 AM

lowest rated player in the 2006 recruiting class, and is now entering his third year with the Falcons and has seen playing time and has had some catches as the Falcons number 2 TE.

He's going to be fine once he gets into Caldwell's system. He's going to be on a lot of people's radar this year as well.
