The CFB playoff "committee"
Oct 20, 2015, 7:53 PM

How in the world did college football come to this?
The whole idea that a COMMITTEE gathers and decides who gets to play for the national championship is absurd.

Really? We have a chance to make the playoff this year.

If we still had the BCS system, we would have virtually no chance of making the national championship game.

I know right ... tell it to the basketball folks.

Only thing they got wrong was 4 teams.
While you're trying to fix things, tell the ACC that they need to fix the divisions.

I don't think the issue is the divisions...

The ACC does a good job at divisions with what it has. And what it has is 10 basketball schools and 4 football schools. Of which they have 2 football schools in each division. It just so happens the two in the coastal suck...

pushing it. We need at least 4 who are ranked in the top 25 on a somewhat regular basis to boast that.

There's none according to the short history of the PO system.

If computers wrote their own programs...

assigned weight to their own metrics and were never contaminated by the money involved in the outcomes of the results of their selections I'd be all about computers.
If the program writers were rewarded only by the accuracy of their program to select teams for limited playoff seeds I'd be all about human participation in the exercise. A statistician can 'statistically,' prove anything he wants to prove.
Matter of fact, a junior level statistics course teaches nothing past being able to see through bullchit in statistical reports. It only make one aware of the terminology of such a report and look for the different factors which are pertinent in fair, useful findings and evaluations and thereby eliminate those which are not.

perfect scenario would be 4 power conferences w winner of each going to playoffs

Takes human bias completely out. You can even throw in some rule that if a conf champ has more than three losses and there is a top ten ranked non power conf team then they will replace that conf champ in playoffs

attempts like the BCS, or, heaven forbid, just the polls. I probably put more thought into the Pick 6 each week than some of the pollsters do their votes.

I'm certainly not lobbying for what we had before. We need a legitimate playoff just like every other sport.
Over half the teams in FBS go into the season knowing they have no shot at playing for a national championship.
