What confidence do you have in Neff?

Mar 13, 2022, 12:19 AM

He deserved the job from what everyone says, but is he going to be able to make tough decisions regarding coaching changes?

At this point, he hasn't earned or lost my confidence. Any new AD would be in the same position. His decisions moving forward will influence my perception.

Mysterious TD’r, should I have confidence or should I have no confidence? I don’t have a feeling either way yet. What do you think?

The Brownell Lunatic Fringe don’t care what you meant. They’ll take anything as a swipe against their god Brad.
It’s a cult. And anyone that doesn’t want him here forever is an infidel.

Perhaps we just have more confidence in Brownell and Neff than nc gigs who has demonstrated his reasoning ability is off the charts low. Basically at this point IDC if we replace CBB but if that’s the only change made we can be certain it will have a negative impact on the program. Perhaps you think a 14th place finish is the same as a 8th place finish which I can understand the logic. But let’s not fool ourselves that we will hire a coach who will do what Dabo did with football working under the same constraints as CBB

Maybe the anti Brownell supporters are the lunatic fringe. Works both ways.

fire Brad, Karen?

I have confidence and believe in Graham Neff going forward and his ability to make the right decisions. We'll see in year 2 of being the AD next season though if it goes like it did this season with men's Basketball and like it has gone the last 3 seasons in women's Basketball with Amanda Butler after she made the NCAA tournament in her first season,we'll see what he is made of

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Depends if he rewards mediocrity like DRad

Mar 13, 2022, 1:28 AM

Or if he has the stones to do what's right for Clemson basketball.

Perhaps the tough decision is to keep the coach. Guess you will throw a hissy fit…

Graham Neff responded to my email from a couple days back.

Mar 13, 2022, 6:33 AM

At this point, I don’t know.
I sent Graham a polite email addressing my thoughts on making a change in leadership on the mens basketball team. He responded within a day. While he did not tell me his plans (obviously) - two things stood out to me.<

He stated that it makes him mad when “Clemson is the only original member of the ACC to not have won the championship” is flashed on the screen. He said this is a major goal of his.

He gave me points of what his thoughts were regarding Basketball.

He is weighing the post Littlejohn years heavier than the entire 12 years. He considers the post years as a trajectory improvement. (I don’t).

He also brought up PJ Hall and kind of alluded that to make a change might affect him. But he also said, one player is not more important than the program.
He also stated he seeks more investment in our program and hopes to “build excitement and a different trajectory “back into the program - “ that he “hopes to affect change in the months and years to come”.

My take - it felt like he has concerns, but it did not feel like he was willing to make a change now.

I hope I am wrong.

LOL! "Post Littlejohn", he's averaged an 8th place finish in

Mar 13, 2022, 7:41 AM

the ACC and had one top 25 finish in those six years. The last 4 years we've finished 8th, 9th, 5th, and 10th; how in the world is that "trajectory improvement"?

I'm not doubting you one bit, but somebody here is slam full of ####, and they are playing Clemson basketball fans for fools.

You really have to take last year's 5th out of the equation. No one knows what might or might not have happened in a normal year. So many cancelled games. Games missing players so there's no way to realistically judge 20/21 season. Some may say the same for 19/20 but we played a normal season and a similar season as this year. We weren't making post season then either.

It doesn't matter - leave it in and we are STILL on a FLAT

Mar 13, 2022, 11:42 AM

TRAJECTORY, proving his "improved trajectory" statement total BS. WHY is he trying to fool the fans who know better into thinking a 10th place finish in his most recent season is in any way part of an "improved trajectory"? He's blowing smoke for some reason. The question is, why? Why the charade? Whay the lie? Why not just be honest about the whole thing, and explain why such obvious, ongoing mediocrity is perfectly acceptable for Clemson basketball?

The Board of Trustees will ultimately decide,

Mar 13, 2022, 6:53 AM

just as they always do. With Neff so new, they won't rubber stamp his recommendation. I don't think they'll make a change.

Does it really matter if we have confidence in him or not? He will make whatever changes he wants, or needs to make ,but I wonder if he has the "final" say in any of it.
Just asking, but doesn't the Board of Trustees have some say in the final decisions to hire, or fire a coach?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well _ Will Wade is available as an option.

Mar 13, 2022, 7:38 AM

Maybe not a good option.

Re: What confidence do you have in Neff?

Complete confidence because he knows that a basketball coach is just a small part of the huge job he has. The Clemson Athletic Department budget is as big as some small countries' budgets and he is responsible for that.

Total confidence. Much more than I have for some who claim to be Tiger fans.

Drop the discussion. Brad stays

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I’m ready for a change at basketball too but if Neff doesn’t fire Brad

Mar 13, 2022, 9:16 AM

I won’t be upset with Neff. It’s been 12 years, only 1 of which, and not even a full year, with Neff the head guy. So I’d love to see a change but I won’t lose faith in Neff if it doesn’t happen this year.

While you are correct in the only one year on the job - it is not like he needs to get to know his coaches - he has known them for many years. If anything, him sitting in the #2 chair should have allowed him to immediately make the tough calls - since they were on another’s watch and he has been there watching.

Re: I’m ready for a change at basketball too but if Neff doesn’t fire Brad

Mar 13, 2022, 11:21 AM

Well, he admitted in his first presser that he's been heavily involved in the basketball programs. So you're right, it's not like we hired an outsider that has to learn their way around. He probably knows more than DRad from a detail perspective.

Btw - my letter back from the AD department was more of a form template. Just your thank you for the support, we need ppl like you, understand your concern, everything being considered, "I'm a big supporter of basketball and agree there's no reason we cannot win the conference and should be competing for titles in all sports." "We're always reviewing all sports and what their greatest needs and support are from the AD" blah blah, thanks again...

Glad you got more detail but then again I even stated that this is my opinion and a response is not anticipated or needed. Anyway, I trust their decisions either way.

If he's like the one who brought him up in the Athletics Dept - no, I don't have confidence. He won't understand when to hold them and fold them.

Full confidence unless proven otherwise. Not firing Brad in his first year on the job does not change anything for me. Imo the whole subject should be dropped at this point and more towards will be leave on his own.
