Big 10 vs SEC

While the SEC is the most logical, which conference would you prefer. And, plusses and minuses of each conference.

SEC by a long a shot***

The BIG. I think we'd make more money there.

Oct 6, 2023, 10:10 AM

But I'd be fine with the SEC as well, and am sure we'd prosper with them as well.

I just want out of this current horrible Titanic of a conference ASAP!

SEC. No doubt. Why? Because of the traditions and fan bases!

Big 10 has Ohio St, Penn St, USC, UCLA, Michigan & Oregon. (Maybe Wisconsin) So they have great “top” teams but look at the bottom teams. They’re worse than the ACC. Who wants to go Illinois or Iowa or Minnesota when it’s freezing cold?

Remember it’s not just for football. So baseball would especially be hit hard. Like close to a nail in the coffin for the program.

Outside of Missouri, I would love to travel to every road game! Especially Vanderbilt. Nasheville is a cool city and to know you’re going to beat them kinda makes it a fun weekend and not a stressed one! Remember we would only see the schools once every two years and on the road every four years. I’d love to always go to Nashville every four years. (That’s assuming they keep the schedule but I know it would need tweeks)

Tennessee, Georgia, The Swamp ( Florida), the other Death Valley! So many amazing amazing road trips!

SEC all the way!!

BIg 10 by a long shot. Want away from the ESPN and their pot shots at Clemson.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

IMO.SEC.

Oct 6, 2023, 10:12 AM

Most of our naturally rivalries are with SEC schools. Would be cool to make biennial trips to Georgia, Bama, Deaf Valley, the Swamp, the Grove, etc….

Big10 would be OK, but just too much travel distance between schools, etc

There are pros and cons to both. There is however one caveat; whoever pays better.

Geographically and socially the SEC is a much better fit. So, all things being equal I'd prefer the SEC.

Anywhere but the SEC. I don't want us to turn into them.

I hear you, but consider that the BIG is full of the same kind of idiot-homers. The only difference is they're Yankees.

Pick your poison.

but the thought of sitting outside in November to watch games in places like Ohio, Nebraska, Iowa, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Illinois does not particularly appeal to this Southern boy.

weeks affected would be last couple in November, and we'd be playing in SC on the last week. Probably actual football weather the rest of season.

Yeah, Nebraska and Iowa had temperatures in the 90s

Personally, BIG10.

It would give Clemson the opportunity to play in stadiums we haven’t yet.

Clemson going to Ohio State or Michigan would be a bucket list game to attend.

The Big 10. One and only reason -- I despise ESPN. Big 10 and we're no longer associated with them.

Big 10: more money but travel length and slight chance you lose Clemson vs SC

SEC: a little less money than BIG10 but makes sense regionally and ensures SC rivalry

Personally, I don't care either way. It would be neat to see non-southern teams such as Oregon, Washington, USC, Michigan et.al. coming to Death Valley but games against Wisconsin, Minnesota in November would SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUck.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Red herring.

The question is "which conference that might actually want you, would you prefer?"

That list does not include the B10 or SEC.

But since you asked, it'd be the SEC. Because Texas and OU are there. And the money is there. And the fun is there. And the sun is there. And the good things we all love about football are there.

The B10 is pasty ashen elbows and store-bought bratwurst.
The SEC is long legs and tan lines and tomahawk ribeyes.

SEC. Less travel, historical/natural rivalries, better tailgating. Not even close.

If it were to be publicized that Clemson, FSU and UNC were talking to the Big 12 which of the other two conferences would knock on our door first? Collectively over the past 13 years FSU and Clemson far outweighed Texas and OU - simple plug and play and UNC comes along for basketball against Kansas.

The SEC ... cause no matter how bad we are ... the media

SEC. We could cut recruitment standards by 50% and take the best players. Just like the rest of SEC skools.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Gotta love playing at or hosting O, USC, OHst, Mich, PSU

Oct 6, 2023, 3:24 PM

but SEC for me b/c of the Southern culture, food, fans, easier driving locations overall and pretty Wimmens.

Re: Big 10 vs SEC

Oct 6, 2023, 6:11 PM

Honestly, I am torn. I really loath the SEC. But from a travel perspective it is better for folks in SC. I live in MN so does not help me. I just drive to the ND and Louisville games.

The BIG makes the most sense from a conference going to a more national audience. Getting a Clemson, UVA, NC, FSU would really help. If I were the BIG I would go for broke and add OKST, Baylor or TCU and some other BIG12 and ACC. Own the country. Plus, the Tigers may play in MN!! That would be great for me selfishly.

Actually the BIG12 might be fun. You have OK St, TCU, the new four corner schools from the Pac in the BIG12. I think they have all our sports. Easier path to playoffs. And if FSU, NC, Miami, Virginia, VT, GT, Duke all come I think the $$$$$ would follow

Re: Big 10 vs SEC

SEC...I think more if our fans would travel to those games is one reason. More interesting schools and place to go possibly also. Weather.

Re: Big 10 vs SEC

Oct 6, 2023, 9:31 PM

B10 - the conference numbers will be large. They will end up with “regions”. If Clemson, FSU and UNC joined the B10, the region would be those 3 , Maryland, Rutgers, Penn St. Ohio st. About the same travel as today. Tv coverage all over the east coast. Good for recruiting and travel.

Same would be for the SEC. travel might be slightly less. Recruiting basically the same as today.

People complain about the cold. If the player can’t handle the cold, it will be harder playing pro ball.

Not really a significant difference other than recruiting region. Opportunity for players to travel outside the SE.

I would like to see the Big Ten expand to 20 or more teams and then form two divisions.

The top 10 teams would be in one division. (Call it the Big Ten).

They would play a 9 game round robin. The bottom two teams would be relegated to Division B at the end of each season. While the top two teams from Division B would be promoted to the top division.

Tv money would be split up with the top division taking 60%.

Teams in the top division would earn about $20M more than the SEC does.

Re: Big 10 vs SEC

Oct 6, 2023, 11:00 PM

For me personally the SEC, but I think admin will go Big10, reason being amateurism is coming to an end and eventually this will become some version of minor league football. There will be more money in the big10. The sec has a long term tv contract not too dissimilar to the one the acc has now, and when the BIG10 renegs it’ll be the biggest deal ever.

May as well get the money because the ncaa is hanging on for dear life.
