the best part about this recent boom at Chic-fil-a

Aug 1, 2012, 4:35 PM

is that the #### phobic bigots will be easier to pick out of a crowd.

you a bigot?

Gotcha.

Is Dan Cathy's freedom of speech being infringed upon?

Aug 1, 2012, 4:51 PM

Haven't read about that yet. Link?

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgbadge-ringofhonor-19b.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No, but it might as well be.

Aug 1, 2012, 4:52 PM

I don't care about his stance either way, but when the government threatens to deny business licenses, etc because of a view you have that is bordering on infringement.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No, it isn't bordering on infringement.

Aug 1, 2012, 5:49 PM

It IS infringement, and absolutely would not stand up in court. And if it did, you'll see me out there protesting with the "traditionalists".

Neither of which will stand up in court, and the politicians

who said those things have since backtracked since they are well aware they have no legal ground to stand on.

Aug 1, 2012, 9:14 PM [ in reply to Is Dan Cathy's freedom of speech being infringed upon? ]

Yes, actually. He said his personal beliefs, now at least two Mayors are trying to prohibit his business from their cities. That's wrong. You can't deny that.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't really understand the free speech angle on this

Aug 1, 2012, 4:53 PM [ in reply to So, supporting a business owner's right to free speech makes ]

Cathy does have the right to say whatever he wants and donate his money to whatever organizations he wants to. That does not mean people cannot disagree with what he has said or done, nor does it mean people cannot be vocal about their disapproval.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm not referring to an individual agreeing or disagreeing

Aug 1, 2012, 4:54 PM

I'm talking about government interference when it comes to obtaining licenses in certain cities whose leaders say they will try to keep them out.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not that it matters.

Aug 1, 2012, 5:04 PM

Because, one, I'm pretty sure mayors aren't in charge of licensing, and, two, they couldn't arbitrarily block licenses anyway. Seems the Boston mayor has already realized this and has since backed off his threat.

Of course, the ironic part about the whole thing is that these mayors are confronting intolerance with...wait for it...intolerance.

I'm sure you'll let us know if they actually try to do it.

and also let us know if they are successful. Until then, it seems like grandstanding, just like this "support CFA!" crap.

You're exactly right. It also means people can happen to line up by the thousands to purchase a delicious chicken sandwich if they choose, without hating gay people.

Calling people that support the first amendment homophobic bigots is no different in my book than assuming every gay person is a filthy lesser individual with AIDS. You're still assuming an untruth. That would make you an idiot.
