Has Clemson ever considered having a guy with a microphone

to get the crowd going like they do at Williams-Brice? Was watching some of their game on t.v. and you could actually hear him urging the crowd on. If I could hear him on t.v. than those in their stadium had to be able to hear him, and they definitely seemed to respond to him. Just wondering if this was something Clemson has ever done or considered.

heard, most people considered whomever was doing it to be more of a nuisance than anything else. They also have one currently, and I've heard similar complaints.
He started the "I believe" chant done this past game which is ripped off of Utah State basketball. So I'm logging my first complaint due to ripping off other school's traditions a la that school in Columbia.

Who do you think starts the spelling of Clemson around the stadium or the Clemson / Tigers cheer. Our mic man is at the bottom of the student section. He is for the students. There has been one since before the woohoo so leave him alone. If he is too obnoxious, you are too old. He was also encouraging the students to shout "You suck" to Ga Tech when their band kept playing the same song.

Our mic man in the student section is awesome. I love the "I believe" chant, who cares if someone else does it? There are at least 3 or 4 schools in the southeast alone that have some version of Tiger Rag as their song, should we change that too?

and have for a long time. Some are good, some not so much. Un sure about this years as I havent sat in the student section. I would like to see them dress a little different, right now they are indistigishable from everyone else

You are right. As a Freshman "Rat" in 1968, we were given a book that contained numerous Clemson cheers that we were required to memorize. Today, only one cheer survives "C-L-E-M in cadence count". And the Clemson fans don't even do it correctly anymore.

Is there any way you could put some of the old chants here on Tigernet? I feel like if we had a few more we (the students) could get the word out via Facebook, student emails, etc. to try and do more chants. The cadence count is great but a school like Utah State has all these creative chants and they are like a 100th ranked team in basketball and football.

Could we also move the student section behind the visiting team's bench? We might initially lose some revenue, but it would pay off in the long run with more wins.

the student section during my days in the late 60's. A student was hidden below the platform fast-peddling a contraption to generate the electricity! After about 15 minutes he'd get worn out, so the head cheerleader would then take a break. At times it was rather disconcerting....lol

In the fall of 1972, our head cheerleader was Randy Jackson and he was the best ever with the mike!! Randy was just awesome and I am sure no one would ever call him a nuisance. He was amazing!! Randy passed away much to early......RIP.

because we used to have a male head cheerleader "back in my day" who stood up on a platform at the base of the stands in the student section - led the cheers and really got the crowd going.
Then, for some reason, a few years ago they took down the platform and put the guy down on the ground with the other cheerleaders - started referring to him as "mic man" for some reason.
We've lost a lot IMO by not having a real head cheerleader anymore.

I think we need another one in the West Endzone. The mic man in the student section is awesome, but I feel like people on the opposite side of the stadium can't hear what he's saying and won't do chants anyways. Maybe if there were another guy with a mic on the opposite side we could get people more excited, doing chants and stuff... just my thought.

Our mic man did a pretty good job against Tech for the most part. I loved that he was urging on the "you suck" cheer at the beginning. However, he picked a crucial 2nd or 3rd down toward the middle of the game to send the two tigers up the stadium by crowd surfing in the student section. Instead of cheering, he called everyone's attention to the tigers as they went up the stadium, and Georgia Tech busted out a huge play with little to no crowd noise. That was unfortunate. As other people have posted, the crowd (at least on the Hill) during the 2nd and 3rd quarters was pretty dead on defense unless we were able to hold them to 3rd and long. That was depressing. The mic man needs to do a better job of pumping up the crowd while we're on defense throughout the game.
