The ACC

Has proven to (yet again) be the premier conference in all of college basketball. And it may not even be close, top to bottom.

Outside of the NET, how in the world did perception slip so significantly? Is it literally just the power of TV contracts with other conferences? Disappointing, if so. It seems like every single year the ACC has incredible success in the tournament and puts the most teams in the sweet sixteen. ACC is currently undefeated in the rounds of 64 and 32. Incredible.

Queue a S###head or VizHead response right here.

Millions over 14 years, maybe not worth it, but tonight seems ok. Glad we were the underdog.

GO TIGERS!

To see the ACC dissolve, but it's inevitable at this point.

As someone born in 1990 my entire life has been spent watching the ACC. I will definitely root for success until the fat lady sings.

I’m sort of there, sans UNC. Those mercenaries can burn for all I care.

Absolutely. I guess what I'm trying to say is I'm going to miss hating Ga Tech, NC State, UNC, etc.

The ACC being a targeted conference to dissolve might not be by happenstance. Planned assassination, rather.

Moral of the story (when it comes to the narrative that the ACC is down in basketball…. Don’t trust the media.

Interesting take...

From a competitive standpoint, I honestly don't think the ACC takes a back seat to any conferences. But that will soon change I'm afraid...

Honestly it’s fair. It’s up to the teams in the ACC to take care of business in the regular season. Out of conference play has not been very good in the regular season. No way we should have split with the SEC in that challenge. Also the top teams need to win more consistently in league play.

I understand the perception that we are not as dominant as years past, but to say the Big 12 and SEC is laughable imo.

Just look at Clemson - we beat the SEC's top two teams at THEIR place and couldn't even finish top 5 in our own conference.

The ACC has historically always won when it matters - the tournament. Outside of Kentucky, the SEC has been ABYSMAL when everything is on the line.

JCCantrell86 - I must disagree.

In terms of basketball prowess, as much as I don't like some of the top teams in basketball, they have done well "when it counts"!

Only the ACC has to do it "Every Single Solitary Year"! If not, "the ACC is down nonsense starts"! Other conferences can go years of being mediocore and "it's okay"?

Michigan State is Big 10 basketball except this year with Purdue! Michigan was okay, but did they win it. Plus, I seem to recall over the years the ACC being 12-8-3(year where each conference won the same amount of games).

The narrative is unfair and stupid. The ACC also held a win advantage head to head with the Big East when that was a thing!

But, follow the money as to who will get positive media and who doesn't. All those, "College is just pure and about the game" rather naive folks who still think $$$ isn't a part keep dreaming!

How can the destruction of the ACC be good for ESPN?

It can’t possibly be in ESPNs long term interest for this conference to not exist.

Not if they see it from a "football lens"!

Why would ACC not existing make football sense either for ESPN?

I don’t see how moving 6-8 teams to sec and big10 helps ESPN.

Because, it would be easier to manage!

Look at the pro model, for example. NBA - East and West. NFL - AFC and NFC. MLB - National and American.

You don't have off-shoots "causing blurred lines of who should or shouldn't be in"!

Plus, as others have said, "follow the money"! Big 10 has better TV payout deals; despite having the exact same number of National Championships in football as The ACC since 2000(Technically 1 less if you include Miami in 2002). So, it's not so much about production on the field, as they have long since had that great deal. And, is Purdue, Indiana, Northwestern, Rutgers, Minnesota, Maryland, etc. bringing in the $$$$ like that. No. The largest schools( Ohio st. Michigan, PSU and Nebraska are driving that bus). The ACC just pretty much has FSU and Clemson who care a ton about football and have invested in it.

I don't think ESPN is necessarily behind anything but the reality is the SEC and Big 10 are an unparalleled coalition in terms of revenue and voting power. It is what it is.

they simply want them to stop beating their cash cow SEC teams.
