on a few things. Cade is an above average QB. His speed is a real asset. Our receivers when healthy are above average. Our O line is below average. Our RBs are above average. Our offensive scheme and OC is above average. The biggest problem I saw in keeping us from running our offensive system is a very poor O line. Cade had difficulty having enough time to drop back and pass. RBs had very few running lanes. He did not have enough time to go deep with passes. The only positions we tried to get players out of the portal was the O line. We were unsuccessful. That should tell us something about our greatest need. I’m giving the bust our DB had on the allowed big plays on inexperience not talent. Hoping Luke will improve a more experienced group next year.

Even when healthy our WRs are pedestrian. Lots of hopes and finger crossing that wesco and Moore change that as true freshmen.

Oline has never been one of Dabo’s priorities. And recruits know we are not known as an oline factory to the pros.

get off time. As a QB in major college ball or the NFL, you got 3 seconds max from the snap of the ball to evaluate, locate, and assassinate. You gotta pull the trigger or scramble at 3. Cade looked extremely hesitant to throw the ball, lingering in the pocket, and it showed in the number of sacks.
Now it’s not all on Cade, WRs gotta be where they’re supposed to be, OL gotta block…and the QB can’t be afraid to throw the ball. Cade showed this year he can make some serious throws, so he can put it where it needs to go. The timing of our offense is a major issue.

Funny bc what I saw was he had less than 3 seconds before having a guy on him or his guard or center pushed back into his face. Pressure dies not just come from the edge.

I think he is holding the ball because he his still in the learning process of when to throw and not to theow so he doesn’t trust his own reads. Hoping offseason film study and coaching will help with this. BUT oline has to improve they completely miss blocks too often.

You can't always wait until a receiver gets open. A number of time a receiver was clearly open, but by the time the ball got there he was covered. He has to do a better job of anticipating when a receiver is going to break open and throw sooner. I guess that is basically throwing a receiver open.

I said during the game that Cade was a second or 2 late on most of his throws.

Agree. Many times if he throws the ball before the receiver comes out of his break he would have no problem. Too many times when Cade recognized the receiver breaking open it was too late and the DB had recovered.

Agree, I would just like to see him take more chances … I mean many times we have one on one coverage or even with one safety back it just seems like we don’t give the WR group to go make plays and see what they are capable of…it would atleast make the defense think about the deep ball which now defenses don’t even worry about. I know a lot of times it’s incomplete or you may get a PI called but I’d like to see cade throw some up and trust the wrs to go make a play … I’m a lifelong dolphins fan and that was one of the biggest knocks on Tua when he got to camp. He was used to throwing to wide open guys and had to develop the trust to let wr make plays or trust they would be in the right place. Guys aren’t always wide open and sometimes you have to let guys make plays or throw guys open… I think ppl are downing our wrs for not being wide open and I just feel like if you watch most any other game there are a handful of times during the game wrs make great catches contested down the field, we don’t even give them those opportunities.

I agree with your assessment. While it was a good win, we must remember that we beat a Kentucky team that finished in the bottom third of the SEC. And a team that was beaten by the Coots. And we had to come from behind in the last minute of the game to beat Kentucky. Hopefully the come-from-behind victory will be a springboard to a very good spring session which will hopefully translate into a more successful fall in 2024.

When pressure on a QB comes up the middle there's a problem. No QB can be successful when you can't protect the middle. A QB needs to be able to step up and scramble or throw.

I still think G Riley should consider something similar to what Oregon State did with DJU. By putting him under center on many plays it gave his movements more purpose by reducing the time he stood with dancing feet anxiously trying to find open receiver. Also, secondary not able to focus on the QB’s eyes as easily if his moving. OC maybe design a series of plays to incorporate such a scheme.

His speed maybe an asset, but he needs to improve on when and where he runs

too often, he makes a bad cut and is easily tackled. What looks like open grass closes way to quickly.
Or he runs at an angle backwards that makes my head spin. To be fair, he did this mostly in the early part of the season.
