Biden on the news walking only a short distance, makes me concerned about my own short term health. At 75 years old, do I have less than 5 years left before I am taking 6 inch steps and still looking like I lost my walker?

Clover, watch those feet buddy. You have a reason to shuffle once in a while. Most of us did not spend a long paid vacation at "The Walter" having their Knee rebuilt, learning to walk again because of a gook machine gun round on a hill in the beautiful Vietnam, Republic Of.
"BO" did not die in Iraq.

What is a politically correct term to call those who dream up all kinds of ways to kill you and your buddies? This term was not in any way a reference to any race - we did not use that word for any other group in the country other than the enemy. At least, in my experience, we treated villagers with respect and kindness even they might turn on us at any time. Of course , there were those like Calley who lost control and did inhumane things. The soldiers characterized as the "Greatest Generation" used words like "Japs" and "Krauts" only because it was a terrible war caused by those countries - are we going to rewrite history and call all who fought at that time racists instead of heroes because of their language?

Eugene B Sledge, Corporal, 5th Marines WWII, Peleliu, Okinawa and author of With The Old Breed said until the day he died he would hate "Japs" because of what he and his fellow Marines endured because of them.
Read the book and you will understand why.

They earned it 😏. At the time in history that he’s speaking of it was quite appropriate to call them Japs and any other derogatory name he could think of!

As far as I know they are still doing dinner too. We had a great burger at the little Amish bakery cafe (before you get to the school house restaurant) and it was very good.

I guess you can say it’s not for us to know when that change might come about. At 72 I still feel pretty spry but after my most recent surgery there were times when i thought it might be closer than I expect. One of my future projects is to install some hand holds in the shower. Can’t be too careful!!

To have your family doctor enroll you in a physical therapy class for a few weeks so they can properly study your movements and reflexes.
Actually it is something that you will enjoy.
I’m a young, soon to be, 83 years old and saw the therapist for a few weeks last year. I I did very well but they are always concerned about falls in older patients. So I suggest you prepare for that. I had no aging problems at all until I had an auto crash about five years ago. The sixteen fractured ribs I had still ache some mornings!!!
I learned quickly that I ain’t as spry as I once was.
I learned only this year how important staying hydrated is to a guy. All of my adult life from 1968 to just recently did I spend hours and hours in the outdoors alone and never gave a moments thought to sickness or injury. When I began to slow down because of a loss of vigor did I learn how important water is to a person. I’m a slow learner!
See a therapist. I promise you will enjoy it. I was sad when they told me not to come back!!!!

I am just scared to think what kind of mental shape both Biden and Trump will be in by the time the term is over in 5 years or whether they will even be alive. We are not promised tomorrow but living to be over 80 would be a blessing.

The age of the chief executive of the country is a legitimate concern. What’s astonishing is that the other party seems hell bent on nominating a candidate who will be the oldest person to take the oath of office at his inauguration. Regardless of the election outcome, we get state dinners at the S&S Cafeteria.

Clover, you never know. Age attacks each one of us differently. I am 85 years old. I weigh the same as I did as a freshman at Clemson in 1956. I walk two plus miles 3 or 4 days a week and walk 18 holes of golf twice a week and exercise with light weights 3 days a week. I can't attest to my mental acuity but I manage (so far) to keep up with things. Biggest challenge is impaired hearing, but I think I could still manage business and professional responsibilities now as well as I did 20 years ago. The good news is that I don't have to. Cheers. Go Tigers!

I am 50 pounds more than as a freshman '64. I understand it is unlikely I will make it to your age (85). On this day I see drop off, but in some ways I am more.

Don't even know how to reply to this thread. My observations of my parents and others tell me that after 80 bad stuff can happen fast. I think it was Dirty Harry Callahan who said "a man's gotta know his limitations". Ya'll stay off ladders and roofs!

After hitting 65 I decided to give up roofs and high ladders. Then I was crawling under the house to fix plumbing and I had all my parts and tools in a carrier pushing it over and under pipes and ducts. Then I decided by the time I got there and fixed it I might not be able to to crawl out and it would be 3 days before my son came by to find me! That was 7 years ago.

Work on balance, mobility and strength training. Walking mixed with some cardio. Try to prevent the fall but if it happens be ready. You lose a lot of muscle every year and gain fat. The scale might be close to the same but you just replaced the muscle with fat.

as I got bored with retirement.
However, I am cautious with steps, climbing and driving: now, I only take two steps at a time instead of three; will climb no higher than about 20 feet and have forced myself to drive no faster than 85 or 90..,no more of those 100 MPH road trips for me! lol....
Due to my age, however, 80 year olds can have a useful role in our society and should, if able. But, we do not need 80 year olds in the White House, and the two current, leading candidates are in or close to that caveat. To me it's like my generation has gotten hold of power and simply don't want to let go...a patently ridiculous and irresponsible way of thinking, When I returned to work, I made it patently clear my role would be only in an advisory capacity, not in management, that the business needed younger leadership and initiative. So does our country, for God's sake!

After seeing you pushing deer out of the woods on that cart I think you’ve got a few more good years ahead of you than that. Sounds like you might want to be careful walking around in that garage though…

Be sure when you do trip you have a doe on the cart. Falling on a set of antlers could be uncomfortable.
