Remember when Cliff negotiated a one year deal to either

7

Mar 12, 2023, 7:24 PM

make the dance or leave of his own accord in his last season at Clemson. Cliff had Sharone Wright, Chris Whitney and Devin Gray returning, three guys who played in the NBA with Wright a top 10 pick. He was confident he would make it, and did not, and left, winding up at Auburn, arguably a better job.

The contract situation was different, but the circumstances are not that far off. Brad returns PJ, likely Hunter, and a talented freshman and sophomore class. He's been loyal to Clemson, but Clemson has been very loyal to him as well. Maybe the same type gesture is in order

I disagree, it’s time to make a decision. Either retain Coach Brownell and extend his contract or move on and find a new coach.
The athletic director should be this confident of his decision.

If an extension is made Neff is incompetent. Giving him one more season is one thing but an extension would be asinine.

how do u know we don't lose anyone in the portal like

Mar 12, 2023, 7:37 PM

the last few yrs.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You can never know for sure in this day and age

2

Mar 12, 2023, 7:42 PM

but PJ and Hunter very likely stay with Brad here next year. The team as a whole is pretty set, with the freshmen from this year looking at increased minutes.

I think there's a good chance the roster hangs together

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If he's fired, I believe we will lose 50% to the portal

Mar 12, 2023, 9:45 PM

I don't like him at all and wished we changed 5-7 years ago. But he certainly returns a lot of talent.

3 in 13 is bad -- 4 in 14 is just as bad***

Everybody talks about our basketball history being

1

Mar 12, 2023, 7:45 PM

so bad, and it is. However since we made the tourney in 1980, 3 times in 13 years is the worst 13 year stretch we've had.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Can't disagree, but 4-14 would put him in Cliff's ballpark

Mar 12, 2023, 7:46 PM [ in reply to 3 in 13 is bad -- 4 in 14 is just as bad*** ]

Barnes was 75%, OP almost 40%

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

True and if Cliff had made it to 14 years, he'd probably

Mar 12, 2023, 7:58 PM

have about the same %. Just think it's time to cut ties.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not disagreeing, but it's not happening from our end IMO

2

Mar 12, 2023, 8:00 PM

not this year. Cliff was also playing against an ACC that makes this one look like the SoCon

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

True, but Cliff gets pts as 2-time ACC Coach of Year

Mar 12, 2023, 8:31 PM [ in reply to Can't disagree, but 4-14 would put him in Cliff's ballpark ]

and regular season champion with MVP Horace Grant in a much better conference.

The ACC then and now are polar opposites

1

Mar 12, 2023, 8:43 PM

not remotely close. The ACC of the 80's is as good as college basketball ever was

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

3 nba players on the same team? Brownell hasn’t had 3

3

Mar 12, 2023, 7:40 PM

Nba players in his career.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Cliff could recruit

2

Mar 12, 2023, 7:44 PM

was just up against a juggernaut ACC

Re: Remember when Cliff negotiated a one year deal to either

Mar 12, 2023, 7:40 PM

Didn’t Devin develop a medical issue that kept him out most of the year?

In fairness to Cliff, I think he earned the right to go out on his own terms.

2024 white level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That was Barnes first year after Cliff

1

Mar 12, 2023, 7:49 PM

Devin overcame the heart attack, started the first 7 games and was very good, then flunked out of school

Yes Devin Gray had a heart issue, if I recall

Re: Remember when Cliff negotiated a one year deal to either

Mar 12, 2023, 7:45 PM

hopefully, that was negotiated last year for this year.

but, retaining him serves no one - except brads bank acct.

I for one am glad you are stopping. You are one of the most ignorant posters ever. You obviously think very highly of your own opinion, unlike the rest of us - RockHillTiger

Neff Needs to urge Brad to resign

Mar 12, 2023, 8:38 PM

It would save face for Brad, and everybody can get a fresh start. I mean, you know the long list of D1 schools that would be lining up to sign Brad*

* This is sarcasm

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Probably been the best case scenario for several years

Mar 12, 2023, 8:45 PM

for Brad to move on to another job and us another coach

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Probably been the best case scenario for several years

Mar 12, 2023, 9:38 PM

Surprisingly, no other job offers emerged.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Nothing close to an ACC job for sure***

Re: Remember when Cliff negotiated a one year deal to either

Mar 12, 2023, 8:39 PM

I thought the "make the tournament or leave" scenario was for this season??

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Some drew that conclusion, but Neff never said that outright***
