Streeter actually said

Dec 14, 2022, 11:08 AM

I hope everyone learned a lesson from this pass year. Cade waited his turn and he got his chance. This should be a lesson for everyone. Pretty sure he didn't learn his lesson.

Both Dabo and Streeter need to learn only one lesson, IMO.You do not put the interest of one player above the team.

Maybe they know a little more about the players than you or I do... and maybe they don't.

The only thing we see is the product on the field. He's right; DJ did not lose that game, and there is no honest person who could argue that putting CK2 is would have changed the trajectory of the SC game one bit. The defense gave up the big plays and special teams mistakes really drove a nail in it. Thats reality. The only thing DJ could have done was overcome those mistakes.

He should be loyal to his players, they in turn stay loyal to the program. The alternative is we have a revolving door of players who don;t think the staff gives a crap about them, that permeates to recruiting and a toxic culture.

The page is turned. Move on already.

That mentality is why we aren’t in the playoff- “he didn’t lose” the game

Dec 14, 2022, 11:31 AM

Well he didn’t win it either and wasn’t going to bc we couldn’t move the ball…..

I disagree. Scar left the QB keep wide open on the readoptions but DJ misread that. Also if the QB hits 2 or 3 passes that were schemed wide open and executed to perfection Clemson has 10 more points at a minimum. DJ should have been pulled after he took that hit to the hip bc at that point the only thing he was doing well (qb power and draw) were rendered ineffective. Putting Klubnik in at that point would most likely have won the game. But yes it is time to move on and turn the page, I agree there.

This is absolutely crazy. To put all the blame on the defense and special teams and say it wasn't DJ at all in the South Carolina game is unbelievably delusional. Clemson had 5 times to score at the end of the game. They failed every time. DJ was 3 of 19. DJ shouldn't get all of the blame, but he should get a healthy amount.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Wow, that's clearly not true . . .

Dec 14, 2022, 3:48 PM [ in reply to Re: Streeter actually said ]

. . . to say that "there is no honest person who could argue that putting CK2 in would have changed the trajectory of the SC game one bit."

That's clearly untrue. "What if's" are, of course, by definition, speculative. But that cuts both ways. If we assume it wouldn't have changed things or likely would not have, as some sort of default baseline, then that is equivalent to arguing - at a minimum, that CK would have done substantially the same as DJ. This is just as speculative as the opposite conclusion. It's speculation of a sort either way. So there is no such baseline assumption to rest on w/o also engaging in speculation.

But yes, I acknowledge it's speculative (technically speaking) to say CK would have or likely would have made a significant difference - maybe he would have played awful and the loss would have been even worse. But as reasonable inferences go based on the totality of what we've seen from Cade, and given how DJ was playing, there is plenty of reason for honest people to conclude that he would have "provided that spark"/verve, energy, crisp play, etc. and overcome the result of a failed drive or two. The loss was only by 1 point. It's absurd to suggest that there's no reasonable manner by which to argue that.

Dec 14, 2022, 3:51 PM [ in reply to Re: Streeter actually said ]

Thats kinda asinine. 8-29 passing isn't going to win you any games. That's putting yourself in a situation to lose to make yourself so one dimensional, even against a trash coot defense. Yeah the turnovers were the ultimate killer. And I even said that if we don't turn it over, we would win. I still stand on that but that's a big ask for a team that was turning it over like it was nobodies business in the 2nd half of the season. We saw DJ struggling like a fish on land and refused to do anything to change that. If Cade came in, I'm 99% certain we would've scored at least an extra 3-10 points and we would've won. You can't expect a QB to do that bad and expect a win, it's just not going to happen. Missing wide open receivers by miles is unexplainable and he did that a few times. He misread the option a few times as well. There's blame to go around for days in that game but DJ was most definitely the biggest culprit for losing that game and that's on the coaches. You can't change my mind that Cade coming in the 2nd half would have won us that game. When even Beamer was telling his team at halftime that DJ was going to "give them one", that's concerning as f###. Anybody with eyes knows DJ was the weakest link on the team that day and either Cade or heck even Hunter Johnson would have gave us better production.

But yes, let's turn the page. It's over and done with. Dabo and Streeter should never bring it up and feed us BS about it because they're just talking to themselves at that point and aren't convincing anyone.

I’m not agreeing with much of what you posted.

My thoughts
Cade would have changed trajectory
DJ did have a large part in losing the game
Defense gave up big plays because they were on the field 2/3 of the serving half. offense could not move the ball and had to punt to coots.

I’m glad you are not a scientist. Your data is pretty weak. Remind me; How many snaps did Cade take at ND? I was at that game but I forget.
Cade’s the same guy he was all season. Given reasonable opportunity he did what he was supposed to be able to do.

Re: Cade has come so far since that Notre Dame game.

Dec 14, 2022, 7:01 PM

Well this is an immature thought process. So, as a freshman football player, you don't change from the beginning of the season to the end? The obvious answer is yes of course you do. Cade did as well. I wanted cade as out QB after the year DJ had in 2021. But having DJ start the season was a no brainer. Then when it looked as if he had improved greatly, then I was fine with DJ. But when that started to change, there should have been a short leash. THAT is where the problem was. Everything is not black and white. It's easy when it is. But not being able to make a change when it obviously needed to happen, was teh coaching staffs failure . . and for whatever their excuse is. Primary goal is to win games.
