As a Clemson wildlife and fisheries biology alum this makes me sick to my stomach. Why kill an animal that you aren't going to eat? Especially box turtles with the Latin name terrapene Carolina. Lets kill all our native species. Morons

...no reason other than being frightened of them. I have caught Hog Nosed, Chicken, Mud, Ring and King snakes, just to name a few. Most are docile and were just passing through....

Just need to say this..... a number of times I have changed direction to avoid running over something, but because I changed direction I've hit it square on!!! Who knows or realizes exactly where the tires go. I have found I can't, but maybe others can.

The same trash that runs over turtles are the people that also go out of their way to run over snakes, possums, and whatever unfortunate animal that gets in front of them. They also are the same people that throw trash out on the roadsides. There is a certain group of idiots that especially target box turtles because they are not edible...therefore they are vermin that don't deserve to live.

..I adopted the highway in front on my home, about a 2.5 mile stretch. I can clean it one weekend and it's trashed the very next day. The "Adopt-a-Highway" sign was even shot up and my name under it stolen.....):.....

..of those running over the turtles, views on hunting and stuff like that. I was raised as a hunter, but under no circumstances would I have ever been allowed to abuse an animal, even a turtle. Teaching your children from an early age to have respect for animals is the best way to go...

..some who aren't. Anything we hunted in my youth went into the frying pan. But abuse of an animal, of merely killing for the fun of it was strictly off limits and dad wouldn't have tolerated it. And that included snakes, lizards an old possums as well.... .....

hunter. But he was very self absorbed. The kind of person who thinks the world owes him a living.
Anyway, he swerved out of his way to hit a turtle in the road. It was intentional. It really ticked me off and I let him know it. His response? The dumb animal deserved it for being in his road. What an a hole.

partway off the road to try to kill squirrels, all the while whistling passages from Porgy & Bess. Now, granted, if they'd been turtles, I would have been upset, but I think this study simply confirms why Maryland felt compelled to move to the Big 10. Tired of getting run over by Clemson students!

Would be interested to see what happens if a lifelike baby doll were put close to the edge of a road. Bet a few would try to hit that as well.
