clemson vs lsu facts or thoughts

Dec 22, 2012, 8:13 AM

lsu has an offense that runs the ball as its strength. they have 4or5 power backs. that says ball control like uscuk did to us. lsu passing attack is not that good, and their qb never runs the ball, which is good for us because of our secondary. lsu defense is very good, imo better than uscuk. our offense must score first, quick, and often to beat lsu. if we can make this a shoot out, 30 point game we can win because lsu is not good on offense, but if this game is low scoring, it favors lsu.on defense we have to stop the run and make them throw. their qb will not beat us with his arm or legs. we have been better lately against the run and this is what will help us if we win. we have to get the ball back for our offense and hope we score at least 30 points to win. get some DEFENSIVE stops and we win the game. oh and by the way, dont forget to RUN the ball while we are on offense.

I believe it comes down to 3rd down defense.

We gave up a bunch of 3rd and long conversions against SCar. We played well enough on 1st and 2nd down to win the game only to give up the first down on 3rd.

Games are won and lost on 3rd down and we were pathetic in our last game.

I agree wholeheartedly. In our D's defense, however, SCar

was the beneficiary of several horrendous calls that extended their chances. Still, converting on 3rd and 19 was the final nail in our coffin.

Yep, people just cannot grap that The Coots beat us with a

I just sent 5 bottles of stickem to Dabo for our db's. We win!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

hope that came with hayes and hanes, along with the stickem!

Dec 22, 2012, 10:05 AM

they may STILL be better than our remaining (healthy) corners!

Don't think it will necessarily be a high-scoring game, and I think Chad can get a ball control type offense of our own. With an effective yet not as often long pass for TD and a running, play action game like the last almost 8 minutes of the NC State Game, the Tigers can win with the occasional long pass being the difference. I hope the seniors - Brown, Ellington, Bryant, Hall, Meeks, etc. all have great last game of their career.
24-21!

I don't think we need to play from the lead. I think

the best thing is to keep LSU trying to sit on the lead by running the ball.

We just have to stay within 10 pts for most of the game, then get rolling in the 4th when their defense is getting tired and their offense is easier to stop b/c they haven't established any passing rhythm.

That is usually the opposite of what happens...

Dec 22, 2012, 11:52 PM

We usually wear teams down with our TOP and superior depth...
We wait for the big turnover or the short field because of ST and then get just enough points to win.

Some of our wins were not as close as the score made it seem... We gave up late TDs to several teams when we started running out the clock (including ATM and SCar)...if you watch those games you'll see we dominated them for the most part.

If I am a Clemson fan, I would be concerned that we shut down Lattimore and wore SCar out, we forced the heisman winner into his worse game of the year and we played at least 4 teams who are better than Clemson...
You can win, you can even score 35 pts, but it is not a good bet...

all true, however, if we can get near our goal of 80+ snaps,

Dec 23, 2012, 8:07 AM

i like our chances. usuc held us way below that, hopefully lsu can't. imo we gave up on the run too early in the usuc game when we were avg. over 3.5ypc (could have been 4+,i'm going by memory) which in turn opens up the passing game, and doesn't allow the edge rushers to pin their ears back and come after boyd.
on defense, i think we will be alright vs. the run, the lsu passing game worries me due to our depleted defensive backfield. we have to get some kind of pressure on mettenberger (sp?), be it with stunts, blitzes, whatever.
if we can do these things, and win or tie in the turnover battle, we can win this game.

What happened in the Arkansas game? Were y'all just not in

Dec 23, 2012, 9:20 AM [ in reply to That is usually the opposite of what happens... ]

it mentally. If not for some huge mistakes by Arkansas and one extremely fortuitous penalty committed by LSU that kept LSU from turning the ball over on a fumbled after a sack on your own 20 or so, Arkansas could have or should have won.

And I guess Auburn was on fire that day they were leading late in the fourth only to lose 12-10. My bad, I remember now, Arkansas and Auburn paint S E C on their field so it was going to be a tough game.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We need to control the ball on offense with LONG drives

Dec 23, 2012, 11:03 AM

We do not want to go out there and start chunking the ball with a bunch of hail marys and trying to score quickly. That will spell disaster for our defense by the 4th qtr and LSU will be pushing us all over the field. IF we are going to win its up to chad morris. If morris runs the ball...throws short passes and moves us methodically up and down the field we can win. If we go out in that fast run to the line of scrimmage offense against LSU we will lose the game. There are some teams you use the fast break offense against and others that you don't. LSU is a team you do not use it. Boyd needs to use every second of that play clock when we have the ball.
